Methods of breast mass examination
Many women with breast lumps do not know what examination will be carried out when they go to the outpatient clinic. Some people even think that doctors will know the nature of the lumps only by describing the symptoms, but this is far from the truth. To determine the nature of breast lumps requires a combination of multiple methods. Here we introduce the principles of breast lumps treatment, hoping to provide you with some help.
1. Visual inspection: Through visual inspection, you can find various abnormalities such as the size of breasts on both sides, nipple depression, and color change of breast skin clothing. This is the first and very important step of breast inspection. Don't feel embarrassed because the doctor is always staring at your chest. All visual positive signs are conducive to diagnosing the nature of the tumor.
2. Palpation: Although diagnostic technology continues to improve, it is still necessary for doctors to understand the texture, scope, mobility, and location of the tumor through their hands. Don't underestimate the importance of palpation. An experienced doctor can diagnose most tumors with one hand.
3. X-ray photography: The breast tissue of young women is dense, so mammography is usually not applicable to women who are too young (under 30 years old). Mammography is a relatively convenient screening method, but it should be noted that normal X-ray results are not enough to exclude the possibility of breast cancer.
4. Ultrasonic: It can help to distinguish solid or cystic structure of the tumor. If it is cystic structure, it plays a great role in judging the benign and malignant of the tumor.
5. Biopsy: It can be said that it is the most accurate diagnostic method at present. After doctors obtain the tumor tissue of the patient's breast with a specific method, they can carry out pathological tests (including microscopic examination) on the relevant tissues or cells. Basically, there are three methods for taking out living tissue:
(1) Needle aspiration biopsy: aspirate part of the tissue of the tumor with a fine needle, which can mainly provide cellular morphological data. The internal structure of the tumor tissue is examined by the following two methods:;
(2) Excisional biopsy: perform surgery (usually under local anesthesia) to remove all tumor tissues as much as possible for pathological tests;
(3) Open biopsy: in some cases (such as when the tumor is too large).
