Beijing, May 14 (Reporter Pan Junqiang) The reporter learned from the Beijing Municipal Water Affairs Bureau that this year is the 70th anniversary of the completion of Guanting Reservoir, the first large-scale reservoir built after the founding of New China. Up to now, Guanting Reservoir has held 8 floods of more than 1000 cubic meters per second, held 650 million cubic meters of mud and sand, and generated 8.7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity accumulatively Tianjin supplied 43 billion cubic meters of water.

Guanting Reservoir spans Huailai in Hebei Province and Yanqing in Beijing. As an important ecological node in the Yongding River basin, it has played a huge role in flood control, water supply, power generation and ecological restoration since its construction and operation for 70 years.

In order to improve the water supply guarantee capacity of Guanting Reservoir and alleviate the shortage of water resources in Beijing, since 2003, the centralized water delivery from Cetian Reservoir, Yanghe Reservoir and Youyi Reservoir to Guanting Reservoir has been carried out continuously. In particular, since 2019, the ecological water regulation of Yellow River diversion has been implemented. The Yellow River and Yongding River have achieved a historic "handshake", and the storage capacity of Guanting Reservoir has steadily increased year by year. Since 2017, Guanting Reservoir has carried out small flow ecological water supplement experiment to the downstream Yongding River, and continued to discharge ecological water according to the requirements of dispatching instructions. Yongding River, which has been dry for 26 years, will have water throughout the year for the first time in 2023.
