Members of the organization come from major manufacturers of prestressed equipment in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as major manufacturers of prestressed materials from North America, Japan and Europe. PTI has more than 500 professional engineers, architects and contractors.
Publishing
One of the basic functions of PTI is to provide technical guidance for the design, construction, maintenance and repair of post tensioned prestressed structures. PTI has published 25 reference manuals and technical guidelines covering most areas of post tensioning technology. In addition, PTI also published technical magazines, newsletters, technical abstracts, FAQs, and in-depth discussions and/or analysis on designers' concerns in the posttensioning field.

PTI funded an annual technical conference and an educational seminar for design and construction experts. In 2008, it planned 50 seminars and certification work. PTI's Education Committee also developed a prototype of the college curriculum, which can be used to educate engineers and architects about post tensioning technology.

PTI has 12 technical committees, including bonded tendon; Bridges; Building Design; Cable Stayed Bridges; Certification; Education; Grouting; Rock&Soil Anchors; Repair, Rehabilitation and Strengthening）； Slab on Ground; Special Topics and Unbonded Tendon. The Technical Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing and supervising all technical activities of the Association.
Research
PTI sometimes funds research to improve industry practices and enhance technology. In the past, the proportion of this part has been very low, but it is growing significantly. For example, PTI funded the research on prestressed floor, and a new design program was adopted throughout the country.

PTI is committed to increasing the application of post tensioned prestressing in many construction and repair fields. PTI's promotion committee has developed a plan to increase the application in the existing construction market, adding some new applications, such as post tensioned prestressed pavement and bridge deck.
