In November 1949, the People's Government of the Ninth District of Zhongshan County was established in Dahuangpu.
In April 1950, the ninth district of Zhongshan County was divided into Triangle, Wave Net, and the tenth district was formed by the people.
In March 1953, Huangpu Town was set up separately, becoming one of the three district level towns in Zhongshan County.
In February 1957, Nantou Township was separated from Dahuangpu.
In October 1958, Xiaohuangpu and Gaoli were separated from Dahuangpu and transferred to Shunde County.
In August 1966, Fusha Township was separated from Huangpu Commune and Fusha Commune was established.

Due to the continuous rainstorm in the upper reaches of the Xijiang River and the Beijiang River, the river water surged and flooded, which coincided with the astronomical spring tide, resulting in 3000 mu of flooded paddy fields and 600 mu of overflowing fish ponds in the town, and a direct economic loss of 10.52 million yuan.[6]
