Johnny Mak was born in Hong Kong, China in 1949.Hong Kong TV and film producers.
After graduating from Middle School, MacDonald joined the Hong Kong Broadcasting and Television Corporation in 1970.Studied in the actor training class to become a TV drama director;1975-1981, supervised the production of TV series for Lidi (the predecessor of ATV);[1]In 1981, he founded McDonnell Studios;In 1982, he supervised the production of the first work entering the film circle《Pretty girl》；In 1984, he directed a film about the reality of robbery and murder of "Big Circle Boy"《Provincial flag soldier》, won the best director award of the 21st Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards;In 1988, he wrote a comedy《Young Master is amorous》, and guest starred in the play;[2]In 1991, he supervised the production of a biopic《Lame tyrant》The film made a box office of HK $38 million in Hong Kong, and won two awards of Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Hong Kong Film Awards the following year;[1]In 1997, McDonnell returned after a long stay and wrote a police and bandit action film《Black gold》The film was nominated for 7 awards.Since then, McDonnell has faded out of film production.[1]

In 1975, McDonnell Xiong was a beautiful girl(predecessor of ATV)The Ten Wonderful Cases, an adaptation of real people and stories, which was supervised by the producer, has made great achievements.Later, he supervised the production of Ten Assassins, Big Man《Tianchan》Etc.[1]
From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Mai Dangxiong and Xiao Ruoyuan jointly led the political and beautiful TV programs and acted as program planners.[4]
In 1981, after Li's TV sales, Li left Li and founded the McDonnell Studios to focus on film creation.[1]
In 1982, MacDonald supervised the production of the first film "The Beautiful Girl", which was directed by his disciple Li Dawei. The film won the Best Actress Award and the Best Packaging Award at the 2nd Hong Kong Film Awards;Later, he supervised the production of the action film "Detective Skinhead Sisters", and Macdonald went everywhere to bring the film to Cannes, Milan and the Asian Film Festival. Finally, the film was purchased by more than 80 places, bringing in more than 1 million Hong Kong dollars for Macdonald.[1]
In 1983, McDonnell produced the horror film Ghost Comes Out, directed by Li Dawei.
In 1984, McDonnell Xiong directed the film "Provincial and Hong Kong Flag Soldier", which focused on the reality of "Big Circle Boy" robbery and murder. The film won the Best Supporting Actor Award and the Best Clipping Award of the 4th Hong Kong Film Awards, the Best Director Award of the 21st Taiwan Film Golden Horse Awards, and was rated the second in the top ten business cards of Hong Kong in 80 years, and the sixth in the best 100 Chinese films in a century in 2005.[3][5-6]
In 1986, McDonnell and Xiao Ruoyuan co wrote the feature film "Beautiful Girls Part 3: Midnight Beauty".[7]
In 1987, McDonnell produced gangster hero films《Jianghu Situation》And its sequel Heroes, which was the only work in the Hong Kong film industry in the 1980s to tell a story by dividing two films into two parts, the former was listed in the top ten annual box office with 21 million yuan, while the latter was only 18 million yuan, showing a strong downward trend.[1]
In 1988, Mai Dangxiong and Xiao Ruoyuan co wrote the sequel of "Extrajudicial Affair" directed by Wu Siyuan《Legal insider》, the film won nearly 20 million box office with artistic drama;[1]Then MacDonald and Xiao Ruoyuan wrote the comedy "Young Man Is Affectionate", and his guest role in the film made it the only film and television work he had ever acted in.[2]
In 1989, McDonnell and Xiao Ruoyuan wrote a sci-fi action film, The Frozen Chivalry, which was nominated for three Golden Statue Awards;[1]Later, the writer produced "The Three Wolf Case", which was nominated as the best supporting actress of the Golden Statue Award.[1][8]
In 1991, McDonnell supervised the production of the biopic Lame, which earned HK $38 million at the box office in Hong Kong, and won the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Film and Best Screenwriter the following year.[1][9]
In 1992, McDonnell Xiong supervised the production of the feature film "The Emperor of the Sea over Time", which was nominated for three Golden Statue Awards. However, due to the proliferation of biographical films of Xiaoxiong, the film's box office was poor. Since then, the production of McDonnell Xiong's production company has not continued.[1][10]
In 1993, Mai Dangxiong and Xiao Ruoyuan jointly supervised the production of a play of the same name adapted from Jin Yong's martial arts novels《Flying Fox》。[1]
In 1997, McDonnell returned after a long absence, andChen WenqiangThey jointly wrote the police bandit action film "Black Gold", which was nominated for 7 Golden Awards, but the box office of the film was not satisfactory.Since then, McDonnell has faded out of film production and gone to the mainland to engage in agricultural products and real estate business.[1][11]
MacDonald himself is very ambitious, just like the hero in his movies.His strong point is to "fake", with rich details, compact rhythm, realistic images, hot scenes, vivid characters, complete structure, professional production, to create a completely "adult" adventure world.[1]
