On August 28, 2023, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University announced the establishment of the "Zhao Yuanren Language Science Award" to commend scholars and researchers who have made outstanding contributions to language science research.The award is named after Zhao Yuanren, who is known as "the father of modern Chinese linguistics", and will be awarded every two years from 2024.[116]

The school offers a number of full-time bachelor's degree courses unique to Hong Kong, including design, engineering physics, environment and sustainable development, clothing and textile science, surveying and mapping and geographic information, international shipping and logistics management, medical laboratory science, ophthalmic optometry, occupational therapy, physical therapy and radiology.
In 2002, the university admitted non local students from Europe and Asia to take undergraduate courses for the first time.

Scientific research funds and institutions
In 2018-2019, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University received a total of 846 million Hong Kong dollars in research grants.Among them, the University Grants Committee allocated 316 million Hong Kong dollars, and the Research Grants Bureau (Research Grants Bureau) allocated 90 million Hong Kong dollars for "preferential research grants"[34]。By June 2019, research funds from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Guangdong and Shenzhen governments had accumulated more than 348 million yuan[43]。

It ranked 68th among the top 100 business schools calculated by the research papers published by business school faculty in 24 major academic journals between 2009 and 2013 at the University of Texas in Dallas, USA.
