Chen Tao, an amateur astronomer in Suzhou, found a comet like object in the picture taken by the Xinxing Wentai Neostar Search Program from January 30 to February 1 on the evening of February 2, Beijing time. When the person in charge of Evening Star Tomorrow Wentai continued to track and photograph the object, Zhao Jin, an astronomer in Beijing, reported the discovery to the IAU Asteroid Center. Subsequently, observers from Spain, Poland, Italy, the United States and Russia confirmed this discovery one after another. Finally, the International Astronomical Union named this comet C/2008 C1 (Chen Gao) Comet Chen Gao after its discoverer. The preliminary comet orbit shows that this 13th class comet will pass the perihelion on April 17, 2008, with a perihelion distance of 1.27 astronomical units, and the brightness at that time will be about 11th class. Astronomers can observe this object through telescopes.

Located in Nanshan, Xinjiang, Xingmingwen Station was built by the physics teacher of Urumqi No. 1 Middle School and his friends. It was named Xingming in memory of the late outstanding amateur astronomer Zhou Xingming. At present, the observatory is responsible for searching for new stars and comets by Teacher Happy. This discovery is also the first astronomical discovery of Xingmingwen Station. This is also the third comet discovered by domestic astronomers after Zhang Daqing, an amateur astronomer in Kaifeng, discovered Comet Chigu Zhang independently on February 1, 2002, and Ye Quanzhi, an amateur astronomer in Guangzhou, discovered Comet Lulin on July 11, 2007 in cooperation with Lulin Observatory in Taiwan.
