Overview of scientific research
Chen Zhu participated in and guided the research of leukemia oncogenes and the basic and clinical research of all trans retinoic acid/arsenic trioxide induced differentiation and apoptosis in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), clarified the cellular and molecular mechanisms of its effects, and put forward the idea of tumor "targeted therapy";Participated in the planning, coordination and management of the China Human Genome Research Program, established a related research technology system, recognized a number of genes regulated by retinoic acid and the signal transmission network it composed, described the gene expression profile of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells for the first time, cloned the full length cDNA of more than 300 new genes expressed in hematopoietic cells[2]。

Educational concept
In July 2011, Chen Zhu said during a discussion with many experts, scholars and grass-roots doctors, "The whole education in our country has such problems. Not only medicine, but also engineering and science have entered the major too early, which is actually very harmful to the future development of students and the cultivation of innovative and versatile talents.Personally, I think that the undergraduate stage should be all general medicine. So now we are also considering working with the Ministry of Education to promote the reform of medical education and highlight general practice. "[8]
From December 26 to 28, 2016, Chen Zhu led the Central Research Group of the Peasants and Workers' Party to Shanghai to carry out a special survey on the "reform and development of medical education". During the survey, he put forward constructive opinions and suggestions on the difficulties faced by China's medical talent team, major opportunities and challenges faced by China's medical education, problems existing in China's medical undergraduate education, reform and development, and other issues. He pointed out that the ideological and political course should combine more socialist core values with medical humanistic social practice;Pay attention to training medical students' clinical identification ability and clinical thinking ability; The proportion of clinical practice courses in large hospitals and community centers should be reasonably arranged; In the direction of teacher team construction, we should pay attention to the training of compound teachers who combine medicine, teaching and research, and give play to the role of old experts; We should attach importance to training medical students' ability of independent management, and play the role of old students in clinical practice to bring new students into play;Pay attention to strengthening international cooperation and learn from others[9]。
