In 1950, Changchun Municipal School of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established.
In 1958, Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established on the basis of Jilin Provincial School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In 1962, Jilin Health Cadre School was incorporated into the school.
In 1970, the university was incorporated into Jilin Medical University.
In 1978, it became independent from Jilin Medical University and restored the organizational system of Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Guo Moruo, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, inscribed the name of the school.
In 2000, Jilin Staff Medical University and Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Health School were incorporated into the school.
In 2002, the first phase project of Jingyue Campus of Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was successfully completed, and the main body of the school moved to Jingyue Campus.
In 2003, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the university to become a doctoral degree authorization unit.
In 2004, the People's Government of Jilin Province designated the university as a provincial key university.
In 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was renamed Changchun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In 2012, the university won the national central and western university basic capacity construction project.[4]
