  • Former Chongqing Institute of Technology
In July 1951, in order to meet the urgent needs of the development of the national metallurgical industry, the Ministry of Industry of the Southwest Military and Political Commission decided to establish a "Specialized Section of the Steel Industry Administration of the Southwest Ministry of Industry", which was located in the former Mawang Township of Ba County (now Jiulongpo District).
In April 1952, the school was renamed "Metallurgical Industry School of the Southwest Ministry of Industry".
On November 12, 1952, a great distance Comrade (then Vice Minister of the Industry Department of the Southwest Military and Political Commission) signed an order to change the name of the school to "Chongqing Iron and Steel Industry School".
In 1953, the Central Ministry of Heavy Industry allocated funds to build school buildings in Yidi Fuxing Village (now Iron and Steel Village, Dadukou District), and the school moved here the next spring.
In June 1959, the school moved to the former site of Yangjiaping Southwest Trade Union Cadre School (the current site of the South Campus).
In 1980, it was identified as a national key technical secondary school by the Ministry of Education.
In 1984, the Ministry of Metallurgy and Chongqing Municipality implemented a leadership and management system with the Ministry as the main body.
In 1985, the school was upgraded to "Chongqing Iron and Steel College" with the approval of the Ministry of Metallurgy and the Ministry of Education.
In 1992, the State Education Commission changed the name of the school to“ Chongqing Iron and Steel College ”。
In July 1998, the school was transferred to Chongqing, implementing a leadership and management system that was jointly built by the central and local governments and focused on local management in Chongqing.
In February 1999, with the consent of Chongqing Municipal People's Government and the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed as "Chongqing Industrial College".
  • Former Chongqing Petroleum College
September 20, 1951 Ministry of Fuel Industry of the Central People's Government Approved to officially establish the "Southwest Petroleum Industry College", which is subordinate to the General Administration of Petroleum of the Ministry of Fuel Industry of the Central People's Government, and is located in Hualongqiao, Shapingba District, Chongqing. Junior college students were recruited that year, and Chongqing University Cooperation in running schools.
In 1953, in order to meet the national demand for front-line application talents, the school was changed from a junior college to a technical secondary school and renamed as "Chongqing Petroleum Industry School".
In 1955, after the establishment of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry, the school was renamed as "Chongqing Petroleum School of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry", and the campus was moved from Hualongqiao to Daping (the current site of the north campus).
In September 1978, the leadership system of the school was changed to the dual leadership of the ministry and the province, mainly the Ministry of Petroleum Industry, and the school was named "Chongqing Petroleum School".
In 1980, the school was identified as a national key technical secondary school by the Ministry of Education.
In March 1994, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, the school was upgraded from a technical secondary school to a junior college and renamed as "Chongqing Petroleum College".
In 1998, the school was selected by the Ministry of Education as the national model key construction school for ordinary higher engineering colleges.
In 2003, the school was founded by China National Petroleum Corporation Transfer to Chongqing Municipal People's Government for management. The management system, which is jointly built by Chongqing and China National Petroleum Corporation, is mainly based on Chongqing. [1]

Merge and Upgrade

On May 18, 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Chongqing Industrial College and Chongqing Petroleum College were merged into a regular full-time undergraduate college - Chongqing University of Science and Technology.
In September 2011, the university was selected into the second batch of excellent engineer education and training program of the Ministry of Education. [30] In the same year, it became a pilot unit for postgraduate education of master of engineering degree in the "talent training project for special needs of the country".
In July 2017, it was identified as "the second batch of demonstration universities to deepen innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in China". [31] In the same year, it became a master's degree awarding unit. [2]
In July 2018, it was identified as "2018 National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Typical Experience University". [32]
In 2021, it will become the construction unit for awarding doctoral degree. [2]
On November 21, 2023, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China agreed to change the name of Chongqing University of Science and Technology to Chongqing University of Science and Technology. [1]
