The State Key Laboratory of Rolling Technology and Continuous Rolling Automation (RAL), formerly known as the Steel Rolling Laboratory of Northeast Institute of Technology, was built in the 1950s. With the hard work of the older generation of seniors, it has developed steadily and become stronger. In 1989, it was supported by the World Bank and embarked on the road of building a national key laboratory. In 1995, it passed the national acceptance and became the only national key laboratory in the field of rolling technology and automation in China. In the 21st century, RAL has accelerated its pace of development, expanded its scale and improved its level, and is moving towards the goal of becoming a global leader in this field.
At present, the laboratory has 15 scientific research teams, 119 fixed staff, including 99 full-time teachers, 16 researchers, laboratory and other auxiliary personnel, and 4 management personnel. There are 34 postdoctoral students standing. There are 55 professors, 34 associate professors and 10 lecturers among full-time teachers. In the talent team, there are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 Changjiang Scholars, 3 people who have won the "Outstanding Youth" project funding, 5 national leading talents, 17 "Four Youth Talents", and 2 "Young and Middle aged Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents" of the Ministry of Science and Technology. RAL has more than 7000 m2 of research, office and experiment rooms, and has three research platforms, namely, forming process simulation, material organization and property detection and analysis, and process control and debugging. (1) Development and industrialization of super steel: This research is supported by the National 973 Program and the National 863 Program. Through the research on the evolution of microstructure and properties and strengthening mechanism during hot rolling, thermal simulation experiment, laboratory hot rolling experiment and field industrial experiment, the 400-500MPa super steel has been developed, and the strength of ordinary carbon steel has doubled. Won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and other awards. By 2005, more than 4 million tons of super steel had been promoted in China.
(2) Plate mill Core rolling technology and key equipment development: This research is supported by the National Development and Reform Commission's major technical equipment development project. With the background of Shougang 3500 plate rolling mill project, a series of key technologies with independent intellectual property rights have been developed and integrated, and innovation based on the integration and integration of plate rolling technology and major equipment has been realized. The research achievements have been promoted and applied in more than 10 plate mills at home and abroad.
(3) Development and research of a series of experimental equipment: A series of research equipment has been independently developed by taking advantage of interdisciplinary advantages. Including thermal simulation test machine, hot rolling test mill, cold rolling test mill, controlled cooling equipment, annealing simulation test machine, etc. A batch of experimental equipment developed by RAL has been used in the technology centers of Baosteel, Jinan Iron and Steel, Jiuquan Iron and Steel, Anshan Iron and Steel and other enterprises, adding powerful experimental research means for iron and steel enterprises.
(4) Intelligent rolling technology and application: based on the field needs of large backbone iron and steel enterprises such as Baosteel, this research starts with the improvement of plate and strip rolling process software, and is supported by rigid plastic finite element, microstructure and property prediction and artificial intelligence technology, to establish our own continuous rolling process mathematical model development tools and model parameter optimization tools, The unique theoretical system and practical method of rolling process optimization and digital analog optimization are formed to optimize the rolling process and improve the quality and output of rolled products. The project has won many awards such as the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and relevant achievements have been applied in many steel plants.
