Zhao Meixin is the third generation Chinese in the United States. Her grandfather immigrated to the United States and started a restaurant business. Her father, Zhao Huajin, was born in California. Her mother, Lin Chunmei, immigrated from Guangdong Province of China to the United States before 1949Zhao ZhongqiuHe was a member of the Senate of Sunnyvale, California.[4][7]
Zhao Meixin's husbandWu Guoqing(Mike Eng) was a member of the California House of Representatives.[5]
In April 2011, Zhao Meixin's nephewLiao Ziyuan(Harry Lew) committed suicide after being abused for 4 hours because he slept while the guard was on duty. Three colleagues were charged.[11]
