Xichang was called Qiongdu in ancient times. In the Qin Dynasty, it "became a prefecture and county through tasting, and it was not until the Han Dynasty". However, in the Qin Dynasty, the historical records of what county and what county were in Xichang were lost. In the sixth year of Yuanding in the Western Han Dynasty (111 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty took Qiongdu as the Yuexi Prefecture, governing 15 counties, belonging to Yizhou, and governing Qiongdu. dialect

Xichang dialect has strong local characteristics, and Er hua is a major feature of Xichang dialect. The formation of Xichang dialect is a long and complicated process.
Xichang was the capital of Yiqiong in the southwest in ancient times, and Han ancestors gradually entered Sri Lanka, bringing Wu dialect, Hunan dialect, Guangdong dialect, etc. into Xichang. Xichang, located in the southwest of Sichuan, is adjacent to Yunnan. Since ancient times, the political, economic and cultural exchanges between the two places have been frequent. Therefore, Xichang dialect is also deeply influenced by Yunnan dialect. There are many similarities between Xichang dialect and Yunnan dialect.
There are five language areas in Xichang, but the spoken language in each area is not very different. The main difference is that the tone is different. The entering tone of Xiaoyucun dialect is independent of other tones, and its pronunciation is slightly shorter than other tones. Hakka people in Huanglianguan Town speak authentic "Tu Cantonese" in Xichang. Most people here live by growing pomegranates. They can speak two dialects, "Tu Cantonese" internally and Hakka externally. For a long time, the fusion between Han and Yi has also bred another unique dialect, Liangshan called "Tuanjie dialect".
This language is between the Yi language and the Chinese language. The Yi people read Chinese with rich Yi pronunciation, forming a unique intonation. Not only the Yi people can speak, but also the Han people can speak, which has also become a bridge between ethnic groups. No matter in the city or in the rural market, you can hear the "solidarity words" with unique local characteristics everywhere. [28]
