In January 2021, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a document officially approving the Southwest Crop Gene Resources Exploration and Utilization Laboratory (Sichuan Agricultural University) as a national key laboratory jointly built by the province and the ministry. [1]

The preparation of the laboratory began in 2008. In 2018, the school set the "Southwest Crop Gene Resources Exploration and Utilization" laboratory under preparation as a department level organization, comprehensively promoting resource integration and vigorously promoting the preparation work. The construction of key laboratories has received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Sichuan Provincial Party Committee and Government, and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology.
In April 2019, Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, paid special attention to the progress of the establishment of the national key laboratory when he visited the school for investigation.
In 2020, five provincial leaders came to the university for investigation and research, and put forward ardent hopes for the construction of key laboratories. With the joint efforts of all parties, the first national key laboratory of agriculture in the province was settled in the school. [1]
On July 2, 2021, the Southwest Crop Gene Resources Exploration and Utilization National Key Laboratory jointly built by Sichuan Province and the Ministry of Science and Technology was officially inaugurated in Wenjiang District, Chengdu. [2]

It is mainly used for observing the surface of animals, plants, materials and other samples or the internal structure of tissues and cells, subcellular localization, cell development, tracking expression, etc.
Instrument configuration of element analysis room includes: low field nuclear magnetic resonance imaging and analysis system, ion chromatograph, element analyzer, total organic carbon analyzer, automatic nitrogen analyzer, atomic absorption photometer, near-infrared grain analyzer, and multi-functional imaging system. It is mainly used for quantitative analysis of organic acid, organic carbon, sugar, various metal elements, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, crude protein, fat, starch and other elements or components.
Metabolic analysis is divided into gas chromatography room and liquid chromatography room. The instrument configuration of gas chromatography room includes: gas chromatograph and triple four pole gas chromatograph for qualitative and quantitative analysis of low polarity and volatile metabolites; The instrument configuration of the liquid chromatography room includes: the ultra high performance liquid chromatography four pole time-of-flight mass spectrometer focuses on the qualitative analysis of metabolites, the triple four pole liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer focuses on the quantitative analysis of trace metabolites, the semi preparative high performance liquid chromatograph and gel permeation chromatograph are mainly used for the determination of the content of medium and high polar metabolites.
Instrument configuration of protein analysis room includes: flow cytometry, non-invasive micrometric system, protein chromatography purification system, protein crystallization system, multi-function imaging system, chlorophyll fluorescence imaging system, full-automatic protein expression quantitative analysis system, molecular imaging system, plant molecular imaging system, macromolecule interaction analysis system, isothermal titration calorimeter Differential scanning calorimeter, automatic density gradient preparation and separation analysis system, texture analyzer, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission mass spectrometer, portable X-ray fluorescence heavy metal analyzer.
