Suzhou North Railway Station is located in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China[1]It is a first-class station under the jurisdiction of China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and an important transportation hub in Suzhou.[2]
On February 22, 2006, the Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway project was approved, and Suzhou North Station is the intermediate station of the line;In April 2008, with the commencement of the construction of Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway, Suzhou North Railway Station was officially opened;In June 2011, the construction of Suzhou North Station of Beijing Shanghai High speed Railway was basically completed[3]；On June 30, 2011, Suzhou North Railway Station was officially opened.

On February 28, 2024, the implementation plan of Suzhou North Railway Station has passed the review of China Railway Group, and the preliminary design, construction drawing design and other related work will be promoted in an orderly manner in combination with the planning and construction of the Tongsu Jiayong Railway.[16]

The station building of Suzhou North Railway Station is simple and lively in shape. It draws elements from the hollowed out windows, Suzhou embroidery and folding fans of Suzhou gardens, and integrates the architectural detail design, expressing the poetic and picturesque atmosphere of endless mountains and water within a short distance.[7]The "Gusu Fish Leap" cultural wall in the station hall is eye-catching. A group of colorful fish are hung in front of the glass curtain wall of the station. The scene of a land of fish and rice in the south of the Yangtze River is vividly in front of us.[8]

The platform canopy of Suzhou North Railway Station is a column free canopy, and the structural form of the station building of Suzhou North Railway Station is space steel truss.As of June 2011, the total construction area of Suzhou North Station is 46690 square meters, the station building area is 7846 square meters, and the area of the entrance hall and waiting room is more than 4200 square meters[4]The number of people gathered in the station building during peak hours is 3000.The platform of Suzhou North Railway Station covers an area of 18848 square meters without column rain, and the projected area of the station building canopy roof is 8138 square meters.[9]

As of June 2018, the station building of Suzhou North Station has two floors: the first floor is the station hall, equipment management room and exit hall, and the second floor is the platform;Passengers enter and leave the station in the form of lower in and lower out.[9]Suzhou North Station has two north and south ticket offices, each with four manual ticket windows;There are 400 passenger waiting seats in the waiting room, four security detectors in the north and south entrances, two in the north and two in the south.Suzhou North Railway Station is equipped with four entrance ticket gates, two for up and down, and each ticket gate is equipped with narrow channel, wide channel and manual channel;9 exit channels are set at the exit, including 7 narrow channels, 1 wide channel and 1 manual channel. Simple emergency operation platform is set in the station passenger transport monitoring room.[4]There are more than 300 parking spaces in the north square of Suzhou North Railway Station for temporary parking of social vehicles.
As of June 2011, Suzhou North Station has set up two platforms and six lines, including two main lines and four arrival departure lines. The platform is double island type. The platform is 450 meters long, 12 meters wide, and the absolute elevation of the platform surface is 17.28 meters. The main line passing by is Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway.[4]

As of May 2018, Suzhou Xiangcheng District Government has entrusted China Railway Fifth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. to prepare the Comprehensive Planning of Suzhou North Railway Station Area, carry out the high-speed railway station area planning and station building scheme design of Suzhou North High Railway Station, and provide information on the terminal building model, station area functionsSystematic works such as supporting facilities and surrounding road traffic organization have been sorted out and designed.
The plan carries out research and design from the aspects of station space function, architectural image, traffic organization, connection with surrounding urban roads, etc., to build Suzhou North High Speed Railway Station area into a comprehensive transportation hub that undertakes various transportation modes such as highway, railway, public transportation, taxi, rail transit, and social vehicles.This plan is based on the integration of the Tongsu Jiayong Intercity High speed Railway and Beijing Shanghai High speed Railway. It is planned to rebuild the Suzhou North High speed Railway Station with the original station area of 8000 square meters to about 30000 square meters.
