Teaching construction

The school emphasizes humanistic education; No matter what major freshmen choose when they enter the university, the school requires freshmen to take Freshmen Year Writing Seminar. In the form of group discussion, this course allows students to think about a series of very interesting writing topics, such as "New York, New York: Film and Literature", "Americans in Paris", etc. The purpose of the course is to cultivate students' innovative thinking and effective writing ability.
The teacher-student ratio of Vanderbilt University is 1:11, most of which are small classes. 81% of the classes have fewer than 25 people; 93% of the class members are less than 45. 96% of Vanderbilt's faculty and staff have a doctorate or the highest degree in their field. [9]
The school sets up a series of core courses. All students need to complete general education at the undergraduate level in the College of Art and Science. Taking the most popular major in the school, Peabody College's Human and Organizational Development (HOD) as an example, students who choose to study this major must complete 40 hours of basic courses (including natural science and other disciplines) every week in addition to professional knowledge. After study, students can join any of the more than 300 clubs in the school. Among them, Vanderbilt Chinese Students and Scholars Association (VUCSSA), established by Chinese students, is a group aimed at helping Chinese students and scholars studying in Vanderbilt University.
Compared with other top 20 national universities in the United States, Vanderbilt University is relatively easy to transfer to another department. Students can fully explore the subjects they are interested in in the first two years of their undergraduate life. Every year, there are many examples of students who choose natural science to study HOD at Peabody College. The school has many famous preparatory programs. Among them, the most famous are premedical and legal preparatory courses. For example, Vanderbilt University has the top 20 medical schools in the United States, providing undergraduate students with the opportunity to study or practice in medical schools. The premedical program is open to students of all majors. Moreover, from the trend, the students who choose the premedical program at Vanderbilt University are not only those who study biology or chemistry under the stereotype of people, but also students from different majors, such as literature, mathematics, Spanish, political science, etc.
Vanderbilt University provides many undergraduate research projects, internship projects, summer projects, and overseas projects for undergraduates. Taking the College of Engineering as an example, Vanderbilt University has a national advanced engineering laboratory that provides a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students of the College of Engineering. Taking pedagogy as an example, Vanderbilt University students must carry out teaching practice activities for one semester in local middle schools in Nashville, Chicago, New York, Washington, London, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong and other cities. In addition, every May and July, Vanderbilt University students can apply for overseas projects.

Kennedy Research Center for Human Development and Education, Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy, and Biological Experiment Station. The school library system has millions of books and tens of thousands of magazines. The system mainly consists of the following branches:
● Peabody Library
Look at the city from the campus
The history of Peabody Library can be traced back to the establishment of Peabody Normal College in Nashville by philanthropist George Peabody. In 1889, Andrew Carnegie funded the establishment of Peabody Library in the name of Carnegie Corporation and donated it to Peabody College as a gift, which is also one of more than 100 libraries donated by Andrew Carnegie. The library was built from 1917 to 1919 and officially opened on May 30, 1919. The library has collected information on education, special education, psychology, human development, natural science, etc. After Peabody University was merged into Vanderbilt University in 1979, the library was officially renamed Peabody Library in 2002.
● Law Library
The Law Library was established in 1874 and only collected books on law. In the next 12 years, the school did not establish any other formal library, during which the school also requested judges and lawyers to donate their used books to the school's law library. By 1891, the library had 6000 books. In 1962, the library moved to the new law school building. In 1982, the library expanded again Jack C. Massey's alumni became the main donors of the library.
● Divinity Library
An aerial view of the campus
The religious library was built in 1881 in an ancient Wesley Hall. A fire in 1932 destroyed nearly half of the books (4000 books were collected at that time). In 1941, the library was rebuilt in Calhoun Hall and later moved to the comprehensive library building of the school. In 1990, the Theological Seminary received a donation from the Raymond Zimmerman Family Foundation, which gave the library a chance to expand again and increase the collection of Jewish cultural relics.
● Natural Science and Engineering Library
Before 1972, there was no natural science and engineering library in the school. Natural science materials were scattered in other different libraries. For example, the geology and pharmacy library and the biology library were all located in an old Science Hall; The Chemical Library is located in Furman Hall; The biological library is located in the Buttrick Hall; The Geology and Physics Library is located in Garland Hall. In 1972, books on natural science were classified and sorted as materials of the Department of Natural Science, and were moved to Stevenson Center to establish a new natural science and engineering library.
● Biomedical Library
The Medical Library was founded in 1906 in the Medical College, which collected materials from the former Nashville Medical College Library. In 1925, the collection of the library was about 9000 books, and by 1932, it had increased to 26000 books (at this time, it was merged with the library of the Nursing College). In 1964, the library was moved to the new north building of the medical center. In 1994, the school built a new Anette and Irwin Eskind biomedical library building. At some time, the library had more than 210000 copies of printed matter, 81000 copies of monographs, 129000 copies of serial periodicals, rare and precious books, manuscripts, historical pictures, etc.
● Music Library
Autumn on campus
The Music Library was built in 1947 in the Social Religious Building of the Beaufort College. In 1970, the library was removed. In 1985, the school established a music library in the Blair Conservatory of Music. In 2001, the library doubled and was named after a major donor, Anne Potter Wilson (the granddaughter of Myra Jackson Blair).
● Management Library
The Operation and Management Library was established in 1970 as the Resource Information Center in the Owen Graduate School of Management. In 1981, it moved to the new Owen College and was renamed as the main donor Anne Marie and Thomas B. Walker, Jr.
