In 1982, the discipline of fine chemical engineering of Dalian Institute of Technology was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as the first batch of doctoral programs.
In 1989, the State Planning Commission approved the construction of the only national key laboratory in China's fine chemical industry - the national key laboratory for fine chemical synthesis of dyes and surfactants.
In 1995, the laboratory was officially opened to the public.
In 2000, the laboratory was renamed as the State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemical Industry with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In 2005, it was established as the first level innovation platform construction project of the second phase of the 985 project.
In 2009, it was rated as an excellent national key laboratory.
In 2010, it became the vice chairman unit of "Technological Innovation Strategic Alliance of Dye Industry" of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In 2014, it was again rated as an excellent national key laboratory and the only outstanding laboratory in chemical engineering and technology discipline. [2]

Instrument and equipment

According to the official website of the laboratory in March 2023, the laboratory has a centralized space of 25000 square meters, and 131 sets of advanced instruments and equipment worth more than 500000 yuan, including X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, ion mobility quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometer, completely liquid helium free comprehensive physical property measurement system, and femtosecond time-resolved spectrum measurement platform. Some valuable instruments, such as 600M nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, high-resolution time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometer, physical property measurement instrument, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometer, gas chromatography/mass spectrometer, X-ray powder diffractometer and X-ray single crystal diffractometer, are all powered on for 24 hours, with a utilization rate of more than 100%. The laboratory carries out instrument sharing services with Liaoning Institute for Drug Inspection and Testing, Liaoning University Analysis and Testing Sharing Platform, Dalian Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Dalian Customs and other units.     Dyes and their photochemistry: focus on the regulation of energy release of dye excited states, and innovation of molecular structure. In the fields of fluorescent dye probes, digital ink-jet dyes, dye sensitized solar cells, artificial photosynthesis, photoelectric materials, and ecological textile dyes, reveal the law of the relationship between dye molecular structure and performance, and realize the enhancement of dye molecular functions.

According to the official website of the laboratory in March 2023, the digital printing dyes developed by the laboratory have accounted for 20% of the global general ink cartridges; Medical diagnostic dyes are widely used in blood clinical tests and exported to more than 100 countries; Photodecomposition of water for hydrogen production and research on ecological textile dyes have reached the international leading level. It won one second prize of National Natural Science Award, two second prizes of Technological Invention Award, one second prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and one international scientific and technological cooperation award of the People's Republic of China. Color flexible display and gene sequencing dyes are being conquered. The developed soluble high temperature resistant resin is an indispensable material for aerospace; Underwater sonar absorption materials, radar stealth materials, environmentally friendly tires and so on all have the leading level. He won two second prizes of the National Technological Invention Award. Key new materials such as nuclear pump shaft sleeve and high-capacity lithium sulfur battery electrode are being tackled. The developed coal chemical synthesis gas purification technology accounts for more than 90% of the national industrialization; More than 30 sets of low-carbon alkyl aromatization technology have been applied on a large scale at the level of 10000 tons; Membrane technology has made an important contribution to the recovery of oil tail gas, the elimination of "sky lights" and the reduction of pollution.
