This place was reclaimed during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it was divided into Dongluo, Dongxibao and Wuxibao. During the Japanese occupation period, the residents at the upstream of the Choushui River called the place Tianwei Village because of its downstream, which was under the jurisdiction of Beidou County, Taizhong Prefecture. In 1945, it was renamed Tianwei Township.
In the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the township was first developed by people from Fujian and Guangdong provinces. It was divided into Dongluo, Dongxibao and Wuxibao. The township is located at the lower reaches of the Babao and Erzhen channels of Choushui River. The water flows from the two streams through the fields to the township. The upstream residents call the downstream Tianwei, so the township is called Tianwei, which belongs to Changhua County. In the early years of the Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of the Changhua Branch of Taichung County. In the ninth year of the Republic of China, it was under the jurisdiction of Taichung Prefecture and Beidou County. At the same time, it was renamed "Tianwei Village", which was divided into eight characters: "Tianwei, Raoping Cuo, Zeng Cuolun, Zhenping, Xiao Hong Mao Society, Hai Fenglun, Dadan, and 30 ploughs", In the 34th year of the Republic of China, after the end of World War II, the administrative region belonged to Beidou District of Taichung County, which was renamed "Tianwei Township". In October 1950, Taiwan implemented the adjustment of local autonomous administrative regions, and the township was assigned to Changhua County.
