Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU for short) Pacific region National Research University Constituent University Alliance The Alliance was founded in 1997 by the United States California Institute of Technology University of California, Berkeley University of California, Los Angeles and University of Southern California The presidents of the four universities jointly initiated. Its purpose is to establish a platform for exchange and common development of member universities. [1-3]
The Pacific Rim University Alliance is Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation It is an official advisory body of Circum Pacific A community of nations. The Alliance has positioned its strategic framework to build higher education and research in the Asia Pacific region, cultivate global leaders and cooperate to solve the difficulties and challenges in the Asia Pacific region. [3-4]
As of August 2023, the members of the Pacific Rim University Alliance include 60 universities in 19 economies, including 12 universities in mainland China( Peking University Tsinghua University Shanghai Jiaotong University Fudan University Nanjing University University of Science and Technology of China Zhejiang University Tongji University University of Chinese Academy of Sciences Xi'an Jiaotong University Harbin Institute of Technology Sun Yat-sen University )3 members of Hong Kong universities( University of Hong Kong The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology )2 college members from Taiwan, China( National Taiwan University Tsinghua University, Taiwan )。 [7] [18]
The current chairman is The Chinese University of Hong Kong principal Duan Chongzhi Professor. [20]

In 1997, the Pacific Rim University Union (APRU) was founded by the presidents of the California Institute of Technology, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Southern California. From June 1 to 3 of the same year, APRU held the first annual meeting of principals with 34 founding members.
In 2003, the APRU Secretariat was established in National University of Singapore
In 2016, APRU International Secretariat moved to Hong Kong and was established in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
In 2021, the APRU Secretariat will officially move to Hong Kong Cyberport APRU International University Centre (IUC), the new headquarters of Hong Kong Science Park Open a satellite office. [22]

The purpose of the Alliance is to Pacific region Synthesis of Research University The principals of the Pacific Rim established a platform for mutual exchange of ideas for coordinated development, and vigorously promoted the cooperation of economies in the Pacific Rim in science, education and culture. The activities of the Alliance have greatly promoted the educational, economic and technical cooperation in the region. In its goals and programmes, the Alliance embodies its commitment to global academic and research standards. It is committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation among academic institutions in the Pacific Rim and helping them become global knowledge economy A strong participant in.
The requirements of the Pacific Rim University Alliance for its member universities include: academic excellence, emphasis on research, global vision and innovation drive. The members of the Alliance must be the leading universities in the country, with excellent education quality, development research as the purpose of the school, and strong internationalization and innovation orientation.

For example, 9 member universities in mainland China are from Nine School Alliance [8] , US except University Of Hawaii The 10 member universities outside Manoa Branch are all from American Association of Universities [9] 6 member universities in Japan Colloquium on Academic Research (RU11) [10] Australia All 6 member universities are from Australia Eight Schools Alliance [12] the republic of korea 3 universities collectively known as "SKY" [11] Etc.
