Changde Teachers College
In 1958, Changde Teachers College was established, marking the beginning of Changde higher education.Under the leadership of Xu Fulai, the first president of the newly established teachers' college, a school prototype was set up in a wasteland.In August 1988, Changde Teachers' College was rated by the State Education Commission as one of the first batch of 26 excellent teachers' colleges in China and the only teacher's college in Hunan that won this honor.For a time, there was a saying that "Yuncheng is in the north and Changde is in the south".In December 1990, the school successfully held the National Normal University Standardization Construction Site Meeting[58]。
Changde Basic University
In December 1978, Changde Basic University was officially established and welcomed the first batch of freshmen.In August 1988, Changde Basic University moved from the original site of Guangrong Road, Changde City to the new site of Nanzhushan Village, Dongjiao Township, Changde City, and was listed as "Changde College".In May 1989, Changde Branch of Hunan Agricultural University was merged into Changde College and the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Engineering was established[58]。

In 2022, the directly affiliated hospital and clinical college of Hunan University of Arts and Sciences will be officially inaugurated in Changde Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Both sides will share resources in teaching, scientific research, clinical medicine and other aspects, complement each other's advantages, and effectively promote the development of local medical undertakings[9]。In September of the same year, Hunan University of Arts and Sciences reorganized the original College of Arts into the School of Music and Dance, the School of Fine Arts and Design to promote the internal needs of high-quality development of the school[71]。

Wuling Academic Journal is a bimonthly journal, sponsored by Hunan Provincial Department of Education and Hunan University of Arts and Sciences. Red Mansion
The "Red Mansion" of Hunan University of Arts and Sciences, built in 1959, was once the teaching building of Changde Teachers College and the first office building of Hunan University of Arts and Sciences, and is now the only well preserved and still in use early building of the school.The building is a three storey brick and wood mixed building of the Soviet style. The exterior wall is decorated with red tiles. The appearance is elegant and solemn, with a strong cultural atmosphere.
