Zhejiang University of Technology was founded in 1953. Its origin can be traced back to Zhejiang Secondary Industrial School founded in 1910.It has successively experienced the development stages of Hangzhou Chemical University, Zhejiang Chemical College, Zhejiang Chemical University and Zhejiang Institute of Technology.It was renamed Zhejiang University of Technology in 1993.In 1994, 1999 and 2001, Zhejiang Economic Management Cadre College, Hangzhou Shipbuilding Industry School and Zhejiang Building Materials Industry School were successively incorporated into Zhejiang University of Technology.In June 2009, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and the Ministry of Education signed a joint construction agreement, and the university entered the ranks of provincial and ministerial universities.In May 2013, the university became one of the first batch of leading universities of collaborative innovation center recognized in the national "2011 Plan".In April 2015, it was selected as one of the first "provincial key projects" in Zhejiang ProvincebuildColleges and universities "[1][12]。

In June 1953, the Ministry of Heavy Industry of the Central People's Government announced the establishment of Hangzhou Chemical Industry School, which merged Zhejiang Wenzhou Industrial School, Zhejiang Hangzhou Industrial School Chemical Department, and Jiangsu Suzhou Advanced Industrial Technology School Chemical Department. The school was built in Hangzhou, and its name was Hangzhou Chemical Industry School of the Ministry of Heavy Industry of the Central People's Government. It opened on September 14, the same year,And set up Wenzhou Branch.The school has three majors, namely, inorganic technology, analytical chemistry, and chemical plant mechanical equipment.835 students and 152 teaching staff were withdrawn from the campus in September 1954[6][13]。

In June 1958, Hangzhou Chemical Industry School was under the leadership of the People's Committee of Zhejiang Province, and its name was changed to Zhejiang Chemical Industry College. In that year, it enrolled junior college students, with five junior college majors, including basic chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical machinery, and organic synthesis, and the length of schooling was two years.In addition, in the name of five-year junior college program in chemical machinery and chemical engineering, new students graduated from junior high school were enrolled (soon, it was changed to two-year preparatory program, and after graduation, they were re admitted to the undergraduate program).The total number of specialties is 12 (7 of which are specialized in inorganic process, analytical chemistry, chemical plant equipment, oil refining process, organic chemistry, chemical instrument, etc.)[115]。
Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology
In February 1960, Zhejiang Province decided to establish a chemical industry base integrating production, teaching and scientific research based on Zhejiang Chemical Engineering College, incorporate it into Quzhou Chemical Engineering College, and establish Zhejiang Chemical Engineering College.The school was located at the foot of Lanke Mountain, 12 kilometers south of Quzhou City. In February 1960, the ground was broken and 12500 square meters of school buildings were built in half a year.In September of the same year, the school conducted teaching in Quzhou and Hangzhou.At the beginning of the semester, the school was named Wuxijiang Chemical College.In August 1962, its name was changed to Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology;At the same time, the Hangzhou branch was abolished, and the technical secondary school was restored to the Hangzhou Chemical Industry School, which was led by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Chemical Industry[6][13]。
In July 1963, Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology and Hangzhou University of Chemical Technology were both under the leadership of the Ministry of Chemical Industry. Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology moved back to the original site in Hangzhou (Zhejiang College of Chemical Technology), and the two schools shared the premises of Hangzhou University of Chemical Technology.In November 1965, the school was under the management of Zhejiang Province again, Zhejiang Institute of Chemical Technology moved back to Quzhou to run the school, and Hangzhou Chemical Industry School remained in Hangzhou under the leadership of the Provincial Department of Chemical Industry.From 1960 to 1965, Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology experienced "three migrations in five years".In May 1966, the "cultural revolution" began, and the management organization of Zhejiang Institute of Chemical Technology was paralyzed;Enrollment was stopped for four consecutive years. In July 1970, Hangzhou Chemical Industry School was cancelled and merged into Zhejiang Chemical Industry College in the process of the merger of colleges and universities across the province[6][13]。
In 1977, according to the construction needs of Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang University of Chemical Technology, in addition to resuming the undergraduate inorganic process, basic organic synthesis, and chemical machinery, added four majors, namely, industrial analysis, pesticide chemicals, electrical automation of industrial enterprises, and machinery manufacturing, breaking through the single model of chemical industry.In 1978, chemical equipment anti-corrosion specialty was added, with 8 undergraduate majors[115]。

In May 1978, Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee founded Zhejiang Institute of Technology. The campus was located in Chaowang and Dongxin Brigade, Shangtang Commune, West Lake District. The planned land area was 430 mu, designed according to the scale of 3000 students. The ground was broken on April 4, 1979.In 1980, Zhejiang Institute of Chemical Technology was incorporated into Zhejiang Institute of Technology as the foundation for its establishment.In August of the same year, the Provisional Party Committee of Zhejiang Institute of Technology was established, which defined the policy of building infrastructure, moving schools and running schools at the same time.At the same time, the number of enrollment majors has increased to 12 (including 11 undergraduate majors). Since 1981, according to the construction progress of the new school buildings, new students enter Hangzhou every year, and the teaching staff and books, instruments, and equipment in Quzhou have moved to Hangzhou in stages and batches.By 1984, the school had been relocated and Quzhou branch was withdrawn[6][13]。
Zhejiang University of Technology
In October 1991, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province began to negotiate with Mr. Zhang Ziliang, a Taiwanese industrialist whose ancestral home is Jiaxing, about donating funds to jointly build Zhejiang University of Technology on the basis of Zhejiang Institute of Technology.In December of the same year, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and Mr. Zhang Ziliang signed the Agreement on Mr. Zhang Ziliang's Contribution to the Construction of Zhejiang University of Technology, accepting a donation of 10 million US dollars and a supporting fee of 60 million yuan from the People's Government of Zhejiang Province[6][13]。

In April 1992, the foundation laying ceremony of Ziliang Education and Science Building of Zhejiang University of Technology and the commencement ceremony of Culture and Sports Activity Center were held. After more than a year of preparation, the basic conditions for the establishment of Zhejiang University of Technology were met.In December 1993, the Zhejiang Provincial Government agreed to change the name of Zhejiang Institute of Technology to Zhejiang University of Technology.In November 1994, the Zhejiang Provincial Government incorporated the Zhejiang Provincial Economic Management Cadre College under the Provincial Planning and Economic Commission into Zhejiang University of Technology.In July 1999, the Zhejiang Provincial Government merged the Hangzhou Shipbuilding School affiliated to China National Shipbuilding Corporation into Zhejiang University of Technology.In March 2001, Zhejiang Provincial Government merged Zhejiang Building Materials Industrial School under Zhejiang Building Materials Industry Corporation into Zhejiang University of Technology[6][13]。
In June 2009, Zhejiang Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education signed a joint construction agreement, and Zhejiang University of Technology entered the ranks of provincial and ministerial joint construction universities.In May 2013, the Yangtze River Delta Green Pharmaceutical Collaborative Innovation Center led by Zhejiang University of Technology was selected into the national "2011 Plan" and became one of the first 14 2011 collaborative innovation centers in China.In April 2015, Zhejiang University of Technology was selected as one of the first "provincial key universities" in Zhejiang Province[14]。
In October 2019, Zhejiang University of Technology, Shanghai University of Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, Jiangsu University, Anhui University of Technology and other five universities launched the Yangtze River Delta Higher Engineering Education University Science Park Alliance, which will promote coordinated development in promoting innovation resource integration, achievement transformation, entrepreneurship incubation, innovative talent training and other aspects[2]。At the same time, Zhejiang University of Technology Moganshan CampusOpen a garden in style[118]。In October 2020, Zhejiang University of Technology was identified by the State Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Education as the national intellectual property pilot university in 2020[3]。
On February 4, 2024, Zhejiang University of Technology and Gongshu District People's Government signed a contract to jointly build the Future Technology Research Institute of Gongshu District Zhejiang University of Technology. The two sides jointly invested more than 800 million yuan to cooperate in talent introduction, scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation, industry incubation and other related work[19]。

Association of Future Entrepreneurs
The Association of Future Entrepreneurs of Zhejiang University of Technology, founded in 1999, is an economic mass organization combining theory and practice. It is the only major student organization supported by the School of Economics, Trade and Management. It has become one of the largest student organizations of Zhejiang University of Technology and is open to new students.While the Association is committed to carrying out meaningful activities for students, it has edited and issued the Journal of Future Entrepreneurs by itself. Pingfeng Campus is located at 288 Liuhe Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang[121], with a total construction area of 57000 square meters (as of 2016), including teaching buildings, modern education centers, foreign language colleges, east and west stands, water pump houses and other projects.It mainly focuses on humanities and social sciences, including humanities school, art school, foreign language school, law school, economic and trade school, international school, etc., which can accommodate 15000 students[123]。

In October 2019, Zhejiang University of Technology Moganshan Campus officially opened.The campus is located in the east of Deqing County, 38 kilometers away from Chaohui Campus, 2.8 kilometers away from Deqing High speed Railway Station, and six colleges of Dahua have settled in the campus, namely, the College of Chemical Engineering, the College of Pharmacy, the College of Materials Science and Engineering, the College of Biological Engineering, the College of Environment, the College of Oceanography, the "2011" Collaborative Innovation Center and related research institutions directly under the campus.The planned number of students at school is 10000, including undergraduates, postgraduates, international students and students trained through international cooperation[119]。

Ziliang Building is one of the landmark buildings of Zhejiang University of Technology. It is located on the main axis of the entrance to the teaching area of Chaohui Campus. The Taoli Garden was built in 1991. It is a scenic spot along the river from the south end of Tuogong Bridge to the south end of Jinghong Bridge. There is a bronze statue of Mr. Shouheng nearby. Mr. Li Shouheng, the former headmaster, is the founder of China's higher education in chemical industry. His students are all over the country and abroad. Students often come and go here, so it is called "Taoli Garden"[102]。

Xueyuan Stele
Xueyuan Monument is located on the north side of the hiking building in Pingfeng Campus, donated by the Huzhou Alumni Association. It was built for the 60th anniversary of the founding of Zhejiang University of Technology in the form of the 20th Anniversary Memorial Tower of Zhejiang Industrial Education built in 1934. It is not only a monument to Zhejiang industrial education, but also a monument to trace the origin of Zhejiang industrial pre university history and inheritance of industrial education[102]。
