Relying on the National Key Laboratory of Northeastern University
The predecessor of the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for Process Industry is the Industrial Automation Teaching and Research Office (1955) led by Professor Lang Shijun and the Control Theory Teaching and Research Office (1970) led by Academician Zhang Siying. In 1996, the Automation Research Center of Northeastern University (director Chai Tianyou) and the System Engineering Research Institute of Northeastern University integrated to establish the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Metallurgy for Integrated Automation of Industrial Production Processes. In 2001, the Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for Process Industry under the 863 Program was established. At the beginning of 2002, the Comprehensive Automation Laboratory of Process Industry of Northeastern University was established; In 2003, it was recognized as the key laboratory of colleges and universities in Liaoning Province by the Department of Education of Liaoning Province. Approved by the Ministry of Education at the end of 2003, it began to prepare for the establishment of the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education for integrated automation of process industry. In January 2004, it began to implement the construction plan of the laboratory. In December 2005, it passed the acceptance of the acceptance expert group of the Ministry of Education. In September 2006, the laboratory participated in the on-site evaluation of the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education in the field of information science, and achieved "excellent" results. In March 2007, recommended by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology participated in the on-site evaluation of national key laboratories in the field of information science by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a ministerial laboratory. The results were "good", ranking third among the six national key laboratories participating in the evaluation. [2]

In 1992, the Automation Research Center of Northeastern University was established. At the beginning of its establishment, the center had only three researchers and 100000 yuan of fixed assets, but it established an international oriented and national operating mechanism.
In April 1993, the Automation Research Center held a meeting in the middle hall of the Architecture Museum
In 1997, relying on Northeastern University, the National Metallurgical Automation Engineering Technology Research Center was established. After three times of operation evaluation by the National Engineering Technology Research Center, the results are "excellent".
In November 1996, Professor Yang Zhenning, a famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner in physics, visited the laboratory
On January 23, 2011, the Key Laboratory of Process Industry Integrated Automation of Northeastern University accepted the on-site investigation and expert group investigation organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and participated in the centralized defense meeting on January 27. The Ministry of Science and Technology agreed in principle to establish the "State Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for Process Industry" after careful study according to the expert review opinions. On December 5, the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for Process Industry was officially unveiled.
In 2017, the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for Process Industry participated in the evaluation of the State Key Laboratory organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology for the first time, and was rated as "excellent" among 32 national key laboratories in the information field, ranking first.
In 2022, the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation of Process Industry was successfully restructured and entered the national key laboratory sequence. [4]

Automation Research Center of Northeastern University It was founded in 1992. Now it is integrated automation of process industry Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education National Metallurgical Automation Engineering Technology Research Center (Shenyang Branch Center), Liaoning Automation Engineering Technology Center, Shenyang Automation Engineering Technology Center. The Automation Center is committed to the research of new theories, new methods and new technologies of integrated automation in process industry and their applications in nonferrous metals, steel, building materials and other fields. It is a new scientific research institution integrating teaching, scientific research, research and development, and industrialization.
The founder of the automation center is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a famous expert in the field of international automation Chai Tianyou Professor. Under the leadership of Academician Chai Tianyou, the Automation Center has continuously made internationally leading research achievements that have a significant impact on industrial progress, established a series of industrial automation model projects, and played an important role in solving major scientific problems and major key technical problems in China's transformation of traditional industries with high-tech.
Centering on the goal of realizing integrated control and energy saving and consumption reduction in the national process industry, the automation center has established the following research directions: process control and optimization control, production operation management, robotics, computer simulation technology (see the research direction column for details)
The automation center adheres to the principle of closely combining the research direction with the major national needs, and has established a mutually supportive operating mechanism between the research center and the automation company. Shenyang Dongda Automation Co., Ltd It has strong market development ability, high-tech product R&D ability and high-level automation engineering construction team, and has undertaken and completed a large number of automation engineering projects. The automation research center is guided by the needs of the market and the country, and carries out research and development of advanced automation theories, technologies and product prototypes, providing strong technical support and direction guidance for automation companies. The two complement each other and achieve common rapid development.
Under the guidance of the above mechanism, the Automation Center undertook and completed the National Natural Science Foundation's innovative research group project National Natural Science Foundation of China Key projects, national key basic research plan( 973 Plan )National High tech Research and Development Plan( 863 Program )A number of scientific research projects, such as the National Science and Technology Support Plan (key research plan) and the National High tech Industrialization Project, have more than 100 million yuan of scientific research funds (see the research project column for details). It has won 3 second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 provincial and ministerial natural science award, 1 provincial and ministerial special prize for science and technology progress, 9 first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology progress award, and 4 second prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology progress award (see the awarding achievement column for details).
On“ 985 project ”With the support of the technological innovation platform for integrated automation of process industry, the research work of the automation center is closely combined with international famous universities. Especially in 2008, the automation center and the United States University of Washington , USA University of Southern California , UK University of Manchester Concordia University, Canada National University of Singapore The Chinese University of Hong Kong And more than 10 universities jointly applied to the discipline innovation and talent introduction program of colleges and universities (hereinafter referred to as 111 Plan )The international exchanges and cooperation of the Center have been greatly developed. Guiding discipline construction, cooperating in scientific research, jointly holding international conferences, and jointly cultivating graduate students and young teachers have become the important contents of the project (see the international cooperation column for details).
After 17 years of hard work, the automation center has grown from one professor, one engineer and one experimenter at the beginning to an academic echelon composed of one academician, four professors, three associate professors (associate researchers) and several young and middle-aged teachers (see the column of academic team for details). There are more than 30 doctoral students and 40 master students.
The automation center is the cradle of cultivating excellent automation talents. At present, the center has 8 post doctors, 58 doctoral students and nearly 200 graduate students. According to incomplete statistics, there are 30 professors (researchers) and 8 doctoral supervisors among graduates, National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars There are 2 winners, 5 new century talents and 6 teachers in foreign universities.
The automation center has world-class comprehensive automation experimental equipment.
