The Zhejiang section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway is the first to be built in Zhejiangexpressway, viaJiaxing、Hangzhou、Shaoxing、NingboFour cities with a total length of 248 kilometers were completed and opened to traffic at the end of 1998.
On September 10, 2021, Keqiao Interchange Reconstruction and Expansion Project of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway was officially opened to traffic.[1]
On August 10, 2022, Linping Toll Station (Yingbin Road) and Linping Toll Station (Donghu Road) of Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Communications Group will be opened simultaneously, and the whole line of Linping section of Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway will be reopened[6]。On September 28, Pengbu Bridge, the reconstruction project of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway, was officially opened to traffic.[11]
The construction of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway was started in 1991, and was completed and put into use in sections since December 1995. The whole line was completed and opened to traffic at the end of 1998.Known as "Zhejiang First Road".It is not only the "golden channel" connecting Zhejiang with Shanghai, but also the "Ningbo -Zhoushan Port”Shaoxing ChinaTextile CityThe "main channel" for goods collection and distribution.Also distributed along the lineXiaoshan、Haining、Yuyao2/3 of the national socio-economic integration in ZhejiangTop 100 counties(District).
The main line viaduct from Hangzhou Toll Station to Desheng Interchange Section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway Hangzhou Urban Section Reconstruction Project will be put into trial operation from March 9, 2022[5]。
On September 28, 2022, Hangzhou's "East Gate" - Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway (new) Xiaoshan Toll Station was officially opened to traffic.[10]
On January 19, 2024, Hangzhou Shaoxing Ningbo Section of Hangzhou Shaoxing Ningbo Expressway and Ningbo Section of Hangzhou Ningbo Double Track Expressway Phase I will be completed and opened to traffic.[13-14]
In February 2024, the driving of 18 steel casings for the main piers of Ningbo Section III Cross Port Area and Yongjiang Super Large Bridge Project of Hangzhou Ningbo Double Track Expressway was successfully completed.[15]

The widening project of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway will be implemented in three phases: the first phase is from Hongken to Hangzhou NingboGuzhuSection, with a total length of 44km, was completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2003;The second phase of the project is from Fengjing to Dajing in Shanghai and Hangzhou, with a total length of 95.612km, which was completed and opened to traffic at the end of 2005;The third phase project is from Hangyong to GuzhuNingboThe total length of the section is 80.82 km, which was completed and opened to traffic on December 6, 2007, fulfilling the goal of the provincial government's widening project to open the whole line to traffic one year ahead of schedule.
The Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo eight lane widening project is one of the infrastructure projects determined at the first governor's office meeting of the provincial government.It is also the first expressway in China to be widened and reconstructed in the way of "operation while construction" without interruption of traffic and diversion of vehicles.
With the increase of lanes, the traffic capacity has been greatly improved. The designed traffic flow can be increased from 50000 to 100000 vehicles per day. At the same time, Chang'an has also been addedservice area、TongxiangInterchange, Ningbo Ring InterchangeYuyaoXiaodong hub.Shanghai section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway is also newly built at the junction of Shanghai and Zhejiang because it has six lanesTingfeng ExpresswayConnection to divert the traffic flow of eight lanes in Zhejiang section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo.
In the first phase of the widening project, a bay type parking strip was added, and an eight lane expressway was built using the six lane land already acquired, saving more than 600 mu of land;In the second and third phase widening projects,Changshan RiverBridge andYao JiangUnder the condition that the bridge does not affect the navigation and traffic, the left and right sides of the old bridge and the new bridge implement the flexible "demolition, three construction and three" scheme, which sets a good example in the construction of national highways.
In September 2022, the handover quality appraisal and handover acceptance of the entire elevated and ground roads (except the ground roads from Gaoxin 8th Road to Hongshiwu Section) of the reconstruction project of the Hangzhou urban section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway will be completed, and the project is ready for traffic.[7]
On September 21, 2022, it was reported that the reconstruction project of Hangzhou urban section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway had passed the handover and acceptance, and was expected to be officially opened to traffic at the end of September.[8]
On September 28, 2022, Xinpengbu Bridge in Hangzhou urban section of the important traffic guarantee project for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the reconstruction project of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway designed by China Railway Bridge Survey and Design Institute will be officially opened to traffic.[9]
In April 2023, with the completion of the handover quality assessment of the bridgehead and slow traffic system of the reconstruction project of the Hangzhou urban section of the Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway (Qiaosi Toll Station to Qiantang River New Bridge Section), all the main works of the Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo North Section have completed the handover quality assessment.[12]

Airport Rail Express Joint Construction Section
On January 15, 2022, the reconstruction project of Hangzhou urban section of Shanghai Hangzhou Ningbo Expressway (the joint construction section of the airport track express line), highway and track viaducts will be completed.It has laid a solid foundation for the smooth opening of the whole line as scheduled.[4]
