Shenyang Aerospace University, or SAU for short, is located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province,[3]It is a public full-time ordinary college in charge of Liaoning Province.[4]Shen Hang is a university jointly built by the People's Government of Liaoning Province, the Ministry of Education and AVIC, and a university jointly built by the People's Government of Liaoning Province and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.The school has been awarded the honorary titles of National Advanced Grass roots Party Organization, National Model Worker's Home, National Excellent University for Co construction of Change Classes, etc.[2]
The predecessor of Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, "Shenyang Aerospace Industrial School", was founded in 1952. It is one of the six undergraduate aviation colleges under the former Ministry of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It has gone through several development stages, such as "Shenyang Aerospace Industrial School", "The First Industrial School in Northeast China", and "Shenyang Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics",It was officially renamed as "Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics" in March 2010.[61]In 2011, the Graduate School was established to carry out graduate education and teaching.[40]In 2017, the school was granted the right to promote and exempt masters.In March of the next year, the university was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit, realizing the integration of undergraduate, master and doctoral training.[37]In November 2023, the school was approved as the first post doctoral research mobile station.[1]

Shenyang Aviation Industry School
In April 1952, the central government decided to open an aviation school in Shenyang, making it one of the six aviation schools in Beijing, Nanjing, Xi'an, Shenyang and other places.In August of the same year, the school was officially named "Shenyang Aviation Industry School", which was in charge of the Ministry of Heavy Industry and the Aviation Industry Bureau.[35-36]In February 1953, Shenyang Aviation Industrial School officially opened, with 1050 students attending the opening ceremony.[37]

From 1953 to 1960, the name of the school has undergone many changes, including "Northeast No. 1 Industrial School", "Shenyang No. 1 Industrial School", "Shenyang Aviation University" and "Shenyang Aviation Industry College".Then in August 1962, the name of the school changed back to "Shenyang Aviation Industrial School".[35]During this period, on October 7, 1958, the "Shenhang 1" general aircraft developed by the teachers and students of Shenhang flew into the blue sky of China and participated in the "National Exhibition on the Combination of Education and Production" held in Beijing that year.[38]

In March 1969, Shenyang Aviation Industry School was changed into 251 factory, and in April, the school announced its closure and was changed into a military factory for the production of aviation equipment in the national defense industry. The factory was called "state-owned Shenyang Aviation Electromagnetic Instrument Factory".[39]
In September 1972, the Ministry of the Third Machinery Industry issued the Notice on the Restoration of Shenyang Aviation Industry School, and the school resumed running.At that time, the "251 Factory", as an affiliated factory of the school, undertook the tasks of military production, research and development and student internship.[39]On April 1, 1978, the State Council announced the restoration and addition of 55 ordinary institutions of higher learning throughout the country, including the transformation of Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Industry into an institution of higher learning called "Shenyang Institute of Aeronautical Industry".[40]In June 1998, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved Shen Hang to become a school authorized to grant master's degrees, with the first batch of 8 graduate students enrolled.[37]In 1999, the school was put under the management of the People's Government of Liaoning Province by China Aviation Industry Corporation, and implemented the management system of co construction between the central and local governments, with the local as the main body.[37]

In September 2002, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Liaoning Provincial Government jointly signed the agreement on the joint construction of Shenyang Airlines for the first time,[40]The school was changed to be co built by the People's Government of Liaoning Province and the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, with Liaoning Province as the main management.[35]In 2003, Shen Hang became one of the 18 local colleges and universities of the Air Force relying on training reserve officers.[37]
In 2004, the school started the construction of a new campus, which covers an area of more than 1700 mu,[37]On September 19 of the same year, the foundation laying ceremony was held in the new campus of Shenhang.[40]In November 2006, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Liaoning Province again signed an agreement on the joint construction of Shenyang Airlines.[40]In June 2008, the university was changed to be co built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, following the original National Defense Science and Technology Commission and the Liaoning Provincial People's Government.[35]

In March 2010, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Liaoning Province signed the agreement on the joint construction of Shenyang Airlines for the third time,[40]The university has completed the transformation from a single aviation university to the aerospace field, and officially changed its name to "Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics".[37]In 2011, the Graduate School was established to carry out graduate education and teaching, enrollment and employment, daily management and other work.In 2014, Liaoning Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education and AVIC jointly built Shenyang Airlines.[40]

In April 2019, Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics set up the International Engineering College to carry out Sino foreign cooperative teaching.[60]In June 2021, the CPC Central Committee awarded Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics the title of "National Advanced Grass roots Party Organization".[59]In November 2023, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Postdoctoral Management Committee approved Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics to set up a new postdoctoral mobile station in aerospace science and technology.[1]On January 29, 2024, the world's first four seat hydrogen internal combustion aircraft prototype RX4HE prototype (120kW), which was developed by Yang Fengtian, honorary president of Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, successfully flew at Fakucaihu Airport in Shenyang.[69]

As of October 2023, Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 170 universities and scientific research institutes in more than 40 countries and regions around the world.The Ministry of Education has approved two Chinese foreign cooperative undergraduate education projects, one Chinese foreign cooperative school running institution, and more than 20 intercollegiate joint training and long-term and short-term exchange projects with foreign friendly universities.Since 2007, thousands of international students from more than 80 countries have come to the university to study.There are 5 undergraduate majors, 5 master majors and 2 doctoral majors taught in English for international students.There are more than 150 English teachers.[2]In 2011, it was approved as a Chinese government scholarship training institution. In 2013, it was awarded the "Liaoning Province Overseas Study Education Demonstration Base". In 2017, it was approved as two national brand courses for overseas study English teaching in China.In 2020, it passed the quality certification of studying in China issued by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, it was rated as "Demonstration University of Studying in China in Liaoning Province", and in 2021, it was rated as "Advanced Collective of Studying in China in Liaoning Province".[32]

As of October 2023, Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has won 64 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, including 1 provincial and ministerial science and technology top prize and 11 first prizes.The university was approved as a pilot unit of the provincial science and technology department's policy incentive for scientific and technological achievements transformation, and was awarded the title of "Top Ten Colleges and Universities in Liaoning Province for Revitalizing and Developing Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation" by the provincial education department.[2]On October 7, 1958, the "Shenhang 1" general aircraft developed by Shen Hang's teachers and students flew into the blue sky of China and participated in the "National Exhibition on the Combination of Education and Production" held in Beijing that year.[38]On January 29, 2024, the world's first four seat hydrogen internal combustion aircraft prototype RX4HE prototype (120kW), which was developed by Yang Fengtian, honorary president of Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, successfully flew at Fakucaihu Airport in Shenyang.[69]

Aviation science popularization base
The aviation science popularization base is located in the library of Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where there are the treasure of the town museum - turbojet - 7 engines equipped with J-7 and J-8 series aircraft, the aircraft independently developed by Shenyang Airlines - "Shenhang No. 1" and "Ruixiang Electric Aircraft" models, and the aircraft model exhibition hall with the development history of China's aviation as the thread.[65]
