State Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science Approved in December 2003 WuHan University Construction, passed the construction acceptance of the Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2006. It passed the national assessment in 2008 and 2013. The laboratory director is Professor Li Dianqing, and the academic committee director is academician Wang Hao. [1] The State Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science, based on the scientific development trend and existing work foundation of water resources and hydropower energy, and facing the national demand of water resources and hydropower energy construction, conducts applied basic research on key scientific and technological issues in large-scale water conservancy and hydropower construction such as the South to North Water Transfer Project and the West to East Power Transmission Project. Starting from the research on the impact of changes in natural conditions and human activities on the cycle process and evolution law of water resources, the basic research on water resources and the basic research on the application of hydropower science are combined, focusing on interdisciplinary integration and research and development of high-tech.
In March 2019, it was evaluated by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a good laboratory in the engineering field by the State Key Laboratory of Engineering and Materials in 2018.

The total construction area of the laboratory is 13000 square meters. Since the establishment of the laboratory in 2003, the laboratory has introduced and independently developed the automatic hydrological measurement and reporting system, MAT253 isotope mass spectrometer, large-scale lysimeter for irrigation and drainage system, dam progressive destruction system 56 sets of large instruments and equipment (more than 200000 yuan) such as THM coupling tester, hydraulic structure flow induced vibration testing system, microcomputer controlled dynamic and static triaxial testing machine, rock triaxial servo multi field coupling experimental system, with total assets of 61.7867 million yuan, and total laboratory instruments and equipment of nearly 80 million yuan, which can carry out various complex Comprehensive research experiments, including irrigation and drainage and hydrology and water ecology comprehensive experimental system, hydropower station transition process and control experimental system, pumped storage experimental system, etc., are unique at home and abroad.
Over the years, the laboratory has always adhered to the principle of opening and sharing large instruments, equipment and platforms at home and abroad, and has successively China Water Resources and Hydropower Research Institute Beijing Normal University China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) Changsha University of Technology Sun Yat-sen University Tibet University , Sinohydro Angola Class and other domestic and foreign scholars came to the laboratory to share and use National Natural Science Foundation of China International cooperation and scientific experiment and research of major engineering projects such as water conservancy and hydropower projects, the utilization rate of large instruments and equipment is more than 83%. In addition, the laboratory has also developed experimental instruments and equipment such as large-scale lysimeter irrigation and drainage control system for more than 30 units in China, and has undertaken the construction of corresponding experimental systems, playing a certain role in promoting and radiating.
