Wuhan University of Automotive Technology originated from Wuhan Institute of Technology in 1958, renamed Wuhan University of Automotive Technology in 1995, and was subordinate to the former China National Automobile Corporation [2]

History of Wuhan University of Technology
Wuhan University of Technology dates back to the Hubei Arts and Crafts School founded in 1898, which was merged by the former Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan University of Communications Science and Technology, and Wuhan University of Automotive Industry on May 27, 2000 [2]

Wuhan University of Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and under the construction of the "211 Project". It is a multidisciplinary university focusing on engineering and combining science, engineering, literature and management. Its predecessor has three sources [3 ]
1、 The Industrial Special School of the Military Industry Department of the Northeast Military Region of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which was born in 1948, is the source of the northern branch of Wuhan University of Technology [93] In 1951, Shenyang Building Materials Industrial School was established. In 1955, Shenyang Planned Economy School was established. On this basis, Shenyang Institute of Building Materials Industry was founded in 1958 [3 ] [93]
2、 Zhongnan Construction Engineering School was established in 1952. Its source is Hubei Arts and Crafts School founded by Zhang Zhidong, Governor of Huguang in 1898. In 1907, it was relocated to Tanhualin, Wuchang and renamed as Hubei Secondary Industrial School [93] , later developed into Hubei Wuchang Advanced Industrial School [3 ] In 1952, Zhongnan Construction Engineering School Jiangxi Lushan was merged and established. It has gathered the civil engineering departments of secondary vocational and technical schools, such as Wuchang Senior Industrial School, Hunan Senior Industrial School, Zhengzhou Senior Industrial School and Xiangxiang Senior Industrial Vocational School, which were founded before the founding of New China, and has accepted Wuhan Civil Engineering School and Changsha Municipal Construction Engineering School as a whole [3 ] In 1953, the Civil Engineering Department of Pearl River Water Conservancy School was incorporated into it. In 1954, the school was changed to Wuchang Construction Engineering School. In 1958, it was renamed Wuchang Construction Engineering College; In December of the same year, it was changed to Wuhan Institute of Architecture and Technology, and the college became an undergraduate college from a junior college. In 1960, it was renamed as Wuhan Urban Construction College. In January 1965, the name of Wuhan Construction Engineering School was officially opened, and the school once again embarked on the road of secondary professional technical school [93]
3、 North China Cadre School of the Ministry of Construction Engineering established in 1955, and the Senior Cadre School of the Ministry of Construction Industry established in 1956. The two schools were merged in 1957, and in 1958 they were transformed into a multidisciplinary university with the nature of a party school - Beijing Institute of Construction Industry [93]
In 1959, Shenyang Institute of Building Materials Industry and Beijing Institute of Building Industry adjusted in accordance with the plan of "Beijing Shenyang One Game", and Beijing Institute of Building Materials Industry became an undergraduate college. In 1969, Beijing Institute of Architecture and Technology moved to Hunan Changde 601 Mine for combat readiness. In 1971, Beijing Institute of Architecture and Engineering moved north from Changde, Hunan Province to Wuhan, Hubei Province, and merged with Wuhan School of Architecture and Engineering to form Hubei Institute of Architecture and Engineering. In 1978, Hubei Institute of Architecture and Technology was listed as a national key university by the State Council and renamed as Wuhan Institute of Building Materials Industry; In 1985, it was renamed Wuhan University of Technology. In September 1996, Wuhan University of Technology passed the preliminary examination of the national "211 Project" construction department, and started project construction in 1997; In 1998, Wuhan University of Technology was transferred to a university directly under the Ministry of Education [3 ]
On May 27, 2000, Wuhan University of Technology merged with Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University of Automotive Industry to form Wuhan University of Technology [2]
  • Wuhan University of Communications Science and Technology
Wuhan University of Communications Science and Technology is a key university directly under the Ministry of Communications, which is mainly characterized by water transport engineering and shipping technology and includes multiple disciplines. The school's predecessor was the National Maritime Vocational School established in 1946 [93]
In 1946, the National Maritime Vocational School was founded in Wuhan with the purpose of "cultivating medium maritime technical talents and promoting maritime construction" [93]
In July 1949, the Central Plains Provisional People's Government founded the Jiaotong College [93] In August, the Ministry of Transport of the Central Plains Interim People's Government decided to merge the National Maritime Vocational School with the College of Transportation. In February 1950, the name of the school was changed to the Central South Military and Political Commission, Ministry of Transport College. Renamed as Wuhan Jiaotong University in July 1951 [94 ] In 1952, Wuhan Jiaotong University was renamed Wuhan River Transport University. In 1957, Wuhan River Transport College was renamed as Wuhan Water Transport Engineering College [93]

In July 1992, with the approval of the National Education Commission, the Ministry of Transport notified that Wuhan Water Transport Engineering College and Wuhan River Transport College were merged, and the name of Wuhan Water Transport Engineering College was still used after the merger. At the same time, the Guangzhou Navigation Branch of the College was established independently and renamed as Guangzhou Maritime College. In August of the same year, the Ministry of Communications appointed Sun Guozheng as the dean of the college and removed Zhu Guowei from his post. In November 1993, with the approval of the National Education Commission, the Ministry of Transport informed that the college was renamed Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology [94 ]
On May 27, 2000, Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology merged with Wuhan University of Technology and Wuhan University of Automotive Industry to form Wuhan University of Technology [2]

Wuhan University of Automotive Technology is a multidisciplinary university. The school's predecessor was Wuhan Institute of Technology founded in 1958. [93]
In 1958, the CPC Wuhan Municipal Committee founded Wuhan Institute of Technology [93]
In September 1961, Hubei Province and Wuhan City decided to merge Hubei Institute of Chemical Technology, Wuhan Institute of Technology and Hubei Institute of Technology (undergraduate part), and named it Wuhan Institute of Technology, which is under the leadership of Wuhan City [95 ]
In December 1971, the Revolutionary Committee of Hubei Province informed that, according to the opinions of the National Education Work Conference and the Hubei Education Work Conference on the adjustment of higher education, Hubei Agricultural Machinery Industry College merged with Wuhan Institute of Technology to establish Hubei Agricultural Machinery College, which is aimed at serving agricultural mechanization [95 ] In 1979, with the consent of Hubei Province and the Ministry of Education, the school restored the name of "Wuhan Institute of Technology". [93] On March 6, 1995, the National Education Commission informed that Wuhan Institute of Technology was renamed Wuhan University of Automotive Technology.
On May 27, 2000, Wuhan University of Automotive Technology merged with Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University of Technology to form Wuhan University of Technology [2]

Consolidated development

On May 27, 2000, Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan Jiaotong University of Science and Technology, and Wuhan University of Automotive Industry merged to form Wuhan University of Technology, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Education. [2]

As of May 2024, the university has established relationships with more than 190 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Britain, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, Russia, the Netherlands and other countries and regions in terms of talent cultivation, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation. More than 200 famous foreign scholars have been employed as strategic scientists, guest professors and honorary professors of the university. In addition, the only Sino French cooperative school running institution in Hubei Province - Aix Marseille College of Wuhan University of Technology has been established, and 18 high-level international research cooperation platforms have been established with famous foreign universities and research institutions. Scientific research platform

According to the official website of Wuhan University of Technology in May 2024, Wuhan University of Technology has 52 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research bases, including the National Key Laboratory for New Material Composite Technology, the National Engineering Research Center for Optical Fiber Sensing Technology and Networks, the National Key Laboratory for Silicate Building Materials, the National Research Center for Water Transport Safety Engineering Technology, and the National Key Laboratory for Waterway Traffic Control, There are three provincial and ministerial level collaborative innovation platforms, namely, the inland river intelligent shipping transportation industry collaborative innovation platform, the automobile parts technology Hubei collaborative innovation center, and the safety early warning and emergency linkage technology Hubei collaborative innovation center. The East Campus, formerly Wuhan University of Automotive Technology, is the oldest campus of Wuhan University of Technology, adjacent to Central China Normal University [96-97] The Hongyi Building of the East Academy is the highest building in the East Academy. Yujiatou Campus is located at 1178 Heping Avenue, Wuchang District, Wuhan, Hubei Province. The campus covers an area of 1123 mu, with a building area of 420000 square meters. Nanhu Library

Nanhu Library
The South Lake Library is named Xinzhi Building. The main body of the library stands on the high platform, and the main entrance of the library deduces the form of the traditional wooden structure with the steel structure through the separation and reorganization of the traditional bucket arch and bent. The east and west facades are covered with wood colored metal plates, and the campus history and culture are carved through abstract seal characters. The Chu culture is abstracted and interpreted, so that the historical details can be continued and inherited in new buildings [128]

South Lake Innovation Park

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park for College Students is named Dachuang Park. It is said that Mafang Mountain is where Guan Yu put his horse. In the center of the Pegasus Square in the west courtyard stands a statue of Pegasus, which means that we hope the school can keep forging ahead like a galloping steed, and at the same time, we hope that the school will have an endless stream of outstanding talents.
