Mianhu Town has belonged to Jieyang County since ancient times.At the beginning of the Song Dynasty, ancestors lived together in the border area.
In the Yuan Dynasty, it was called "Mianhu Village".In the third year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1370), a patrol inspection department was established.
In the 12th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1807), Jieyang County was set up as a county seat.
During the Republic of China, it was the Third District Office of Jieyang County, governing 13 townships.
In November 1949, Mianhu City was founded.
In May 1950, it was changed to Mianhu Town.
In 1958, it was merged with Dongyuan and Fengjiang Townships to form Mianhu Commune.
In 1961, four communes of Fengjiang, Dongyuan, Tatou and Jiapu were set up, and Mianhu Town became its own commune.
