Scientific research achievements

  • Overview of scientific research
Lin Jiaqiao's work on hydrodynamic flow stability and turbulence theory since the 1940s has led a whole generation of people to explore in this field. Since the 1960s, he has entered the research field of astrophysics and created the density wave theory of the spiral structure of galaxies, which is recognized by the international academic community. He has made many efforts in the field of applied mathematics, especially developed the WKBJ (Wentzel Kramers Brillouin Jeffreys method) method [8]
  • Applied Mathematics
In applied mathematics, the most important thing for Lin Jiaqiao is to develop analytical characteristic line method and WKBJ method. In terms of mathematical theory, he most prominently proved the existence theorem of a class of differential equations, which was used to thoroughly solve the long-term controversy caused by Heisenberg's paper [9]
  • Hydrodynamics
In the 1940s, Lin Jiaqiao's work on the flow stability and turbulence theory of fluid mechanics led to a generation of research and exploration. He solved the Orr Sommerfeld equation with asymptotic method, developed the theory of parallel flow stability, and confirmed that flow instability is the mechanism that causes turbulence, and the results obtained were confirmed by experiments. He and von Kamen proposed the turbulence spectrum theory of isotropic turbulence, developed von Kamen's similarity theory, and became the main school of early turbulence statistical theory [7]
  • Astrophysics
In the 1960s, Lin Jiaqiao entered the research field of astrophysics, created the density wave theory of the spiral structure of galaxies, successfully explained the main characteristics of the spiral structure of discoid galaxies, confirmed that the observed spiral arms are waves rather than material arms, overcame the "tangle problem" that has plagued the astronomical world for decades, and further developed the dynamic theory of long-term maintenance of the spiral arms of galaxies [9]
