research field

According to the official website of the State Key Laboratory of Crop Stress Biology in Dry Areas in July 2020, the laboratory has established the exploration of crop stress resistant germplasm and gene resources, the mechanism and regulation of crop abiotic stress response Four research directions on the interaction mechanism between crops and pests and their prevention and control, as well as the innovation of crop resistant germplasm and variety design. [4]
  • Direction 1: Exploration of crop stress resistant germplasm and gene resources
Taking the germplasm resources of main crops such as grain and oil, fruit trees and their relatives in arid areas as the object, and focusing on drought resistance, cold and heat resistance, disease and insect resistance, high quality and high yield and other traits, conduct the collection, sorting and comprehensive evaluation of germplasm resources, establish a technical system for identification and evaluation of crop germplasm resources' stress resistance, identify germplasm and gene resources with important utilization value, and reveal crop drought resistance The inheritance laws of important traits, such as cold tolerance, heat tolerance, disease resistance, insect resistance, high yield and good quality, lay the foundation for the research of crop stress biology, innovation of stress resistant germplasm and cultivation of new varieties. [4]
  • Direction 2: Response mechanism of crop abiotic stress
Focusing on abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, low temperature and high temperature faced by crops in arid areas, and using resistant and sensitive crop germplasm (wheat, apple, etc.) as materials, the mechanism of crop adaptation and resistance to abiotic stresses is systematically studied from the aspects of morphological structure, physiology and biochemistry, cell biology, genetics and epigenetics, molecular biology, etc, Reveal the mechanism of abiotic stress damage to crops, clarify the signal transduction pathway and gene regulation network of crop perception, resistance and tolerance to stress, explore strategies and technologies to improve crop abiotic stress resistance, and provide scientific basis and technology for crop stress resistant germplasm innovation, variety breeding and crop cultivation technology improvement. [4]
  • Direction 3: Interaction mechanism between crops and pests
In view of the major pests and diseases existing in crop production in arid areas, the main pests and diseases of grain and oil, fruit trees, and vegetable crops, such as wheat stripe rust, wheat scab, wheat midge, aphids, apple rot, and egg mold diseases, are taken as the main targets to study their occurrence rules and the interaction between pests and crops at the molecular and cellular, individual and population levels, To reveal the mechanism of crop diseases and insect pests, the mechanism of crop resistance to diseases and insect pests, the genetic basis of the interaction between diseases and insect pests and crops, and the regulatory role of environmental factors on the population of diseases and insect pests, so as to provide scientific basis and key technology for the breeding of crop varieties resistant to diseases and insect pests in arid areas, the establishment of strategies for the prevention and control of major crop diseases and insect pests, and the construction of integrated pest management system. [4]
  • Direction 4: Germplasm innovation and variety design of crop stress resistance
Focusing on drought resistance, cold tolerance, heat resistance, disease and insect resistance (such as stripe rust, powdery mildew, scab and aphid of wheat, grape powdery mildew, apple rot, etc.) and other important traits, explore new theories and methods for creating stress resistant germplasm and new variety design of major crops in dry areas such as wheat, corn, rape, apple, grape, and comprehensively apply cell engineering, chromosome engineering, genetic engineering Modern biotechnology, such as molecular marker assisted selection, creates new crop germplasm resistant to stress, closely combines with conventional breeding technology, cultivates new crop varieties suitable for large-scale production and application with high yield, high quality and wide adaptability to stress, and serves agricultural production in arid areas. [4]
