Behind the Scenes

  • In order to pursue the novelty of the film, Wu Jing went to the special forces to train for 18 months.
  • The props at the scene of the film used 20 tons of tank models and a model plane to blow up hundreds of vehicles, and 1700 people were present at the most scene [38]
  • Sam Hargreaves, the action director of Captain America 3, decided to join the film because he was moved by Wu Jing's enthusiasm and ambition for the film after reading the script.
  • In order to capture the most realistic scene, the crew went to Africa twice and suffered from robbery again and again. Not only were they robbed in the slums, but the photography team also brushed past the robbery gang.
  • During filming in Africa, one of the photographers in the film was unfortunately bitten by a local poisonous spider, and his body was paralyzed.
  • When shooting in Iceland, the crew walked for several hours in the snow at minus ten degrees because they wanted to shoot a shot of a snow mountain without car marks. They could only eat snow if they could not drink water for several hours.
  • There is a section of the film that includes the underwater action scene, which lasts for six minutes. It is considered impossible to complete the task before shooting, because no one has ever played underwater for three minutes. When shooting, neither the actors nor the staff had respirators, and there were 5 lifeguards to prevent accidents. The action scenes were filmed for more than half a month, and the underwater rehearsal lasted for 4 days. Wu Jing spent more than 10 hours underwater every day.
  • When shooting underwater action scenes, Wu Jing was very comfortable in underwater action. In fact, it was because she carried four kilograms of lead to make her dive faster. But after two shots, Wu Jing's body could not help sinking because the lead block was too heavy, and his mouth began to soak. Finally, he was saved because of the arrival of the lifeguard.
  • When shooting the scene of diving from the deck, Wu Jing dived from the 13m high deck. Although the shot was only a few seconds, in order to coordinate with the photographer, Wu Jing dived for 26 consecutive times. When actually shooting in the open sea, because the current velocity of the day was 15 meters per second, Wu Jing was immediately washed away by the current after entering the water, and finally had to rely on the crew's speedboat to intercept people.
  • In a five minute hand to hand fight between Wu Jing and Frank Greero, in order to pursue the realism of fist to flesh, Wu Jing gives up the trick and asks Frank to hit his face with his fist.
  • When shooting another fight scene, it was 9 degrees below zero at night. Wu Jing and another actor were repeatedly fighting in short sleeves, and sometimes they could not even grasp the knife firmly.
  • When Leng Feng was filming a drag racing scene in a narrow street in a slum, Wu Jing had no protection measures when hanging one arm on a speeding car. He only relied on his arm to ensure that he would not be thrown out.
  • When shooting the tank drifting, in order to present a better visual picture, Wu Jing drove himself and took pictures several times. Finally, he ran into the tank and leaked oil. There was a risk of explosion at any time.
  • In the scene of the villains driving tanks crazily hitting the roadside pillars while chasing Wu Jing, Wu Jing is almost hit by the bricks on the pillars.
  • In order to restore the truth, Wu Jing requires that the explosion scenes of planes, tanks, off-road vehicles and so on be as real as possible. When shooting an explosion scene, Wu Jing's ears were temporarily deaf.
  • In order to better interpret the role of He Jianguo, Wu Gang joined the group ahead of time and spent more than 20 days practicing lifting a gun. From the beginning, he could not use a gun to the later, he could skillfully complete the one handed cartridge clip change.
  • During the shooting of an explosion scene, Wu Gang accidentally fell onto a big stone, seriously injured his waist, and could not move at all. In order not to delay the filming progress of the crew, Wu Gang insisted on completing the action scenes with ice and pain killer after simple treatment.
  • Wu Jing only used a phone call and a letter to invite Yu Nan to join the film.
  • When Lu Jingshan filmed the film, she came to the studio alone without an assistant and followed the crew for 10 months.
  • There was a scene in the factory. Because there were hundreds of group performances, the sound was too loud when filming, and the local police were also attracted.
  • When shooting a gunfight scene, the American action team dared not let Wu Jing use a real gun for fear of safety. However, after more than 10 months of experience in the special forces, Wu Jing, with her professional quality in safe gun control, dispelled the concerns of the US team [41]
  • Maotai liquor appears many times in the film. In fact, Moutai is not a brand implantation, and no implantation fee is charged. It is only because Wu Jing likes it and wants the world to see the charm of Chinese wine [39]
  • The film was released at 8:01 p.m. on July 27, 2017, mainly to pay tribute to the August 1st Army Day and the heroic act of the Nanchang Uprising on August 1, 1927 [60]

Story setting

The script of "War Wolf II" was created before the launch of "War Wolf". After four years of polishing, the script has written more than ten drafts [41] The film is set in Africa. The reason for choosing overseas is that China has encountered many things overseas, especially the evacuation of overseas Chinese, the shooting and robbery of Chinese people overseas, which made Wu Jing feel that the spirit of Chinese soldiers should go abroad [41]
In order to keep the "live vaccine" of Raman virus, Dr. Chen entrusts Pasha to the cold front in the face of danger. In fact, the prototype of Raman virus is Ebola virus that once spread crazily in West Africa, and this virus has caused extensive deaths of residents in many places. Under the circumstances that the World Health Organization and European and American aid teams to Africa basically failed, China's first aid medical teams to Serbia saved the country from the threat of death. This episode is a tribute to countless "Dr. Chen" people in life in Wolf II [39]

Character settings

The reason why Wu Jing designed Yu Qian to play such a role as a profiteer in the film is that she really met such Chinese people who are specialized in killing their compatriots in Africa in her life. The two cute African actors in the film were actually born in China, one in Shanxi and the other in Hangzhou. They can speak fluent Chinese. The reason for choosing these two children is that they feel very consistent with Wu Jing's role setting. One is naughty, like a little adult, and the other is simple and shy [41]

Prop design

At the end of the film, there is a Chinese passport, on which there is a paragraph: "Citizens of the People's Republic of China: When you are in danger overseas, don't give up! Please remember, there is a strong motherland behind you!" For this design, Wu Jing said that with the rise of China, Chinese passports are becoming more and more popular in the world, with a Chinese face, In any part of the world, it is like having a passport. All previous evacuees have a Chinese passport, which gives them priority. This is an honor. With this passport, they will feel very proud [41]

shooting process

On June 19, 2016, the film was officially launched in a film and television base in Huairou, Beijing [42] On November 2, the film was partially completed in China and took five months to shoot [43] On February 19, 2017, the crew arrived in Africa again, officially opening the second stage of filming [44] In March, part of the film was completed in Africa, and the whole film was also completed [45]
The maximum number of cast members of Wolf II is 1700, including staff from 26 countries. During the shooting process, Wu Jing was most worried about the danger to the life of the staff due to the different habits of Chinese and foreign security measures and communication difficulties. During filming, the crew blew up hundreds of equipment, including one aircraft model, two 20 ton tank models and nearly 100 vehicles.
In order to improve the shooting effect and film quality, the overspending and overtime of the film are very serious. The original four month shooting plan took 137 days in China alone [41] The film took 270 days [46]
In order to achieve Hollywood level audio-visual effects, Wu Jing specially invited Hollywood musician Joseph Trapanese to be responsible for the music of the film, and the recording went to London to find the London Orchestra to join. There were 63 musicians in total. For the brass band music part alone, 12 horns, 3 trumpets, 6 trombones and 2 tubas were used. In order to make the soundtrack and the picture complement each other, as early as the preparation period of the film, the composer joined the team of Wolf II and began to create simultaneously. Not only did Wu Jing go to Los Angeles three times in succession, but also Joseph Trapanese came to China to witness the shooting scene and discuss with Wu Jing [47]

Film evaluation

Announce
edit
Warrior Wolf II made a relatively successful attempt on the road of localization of the film industry, which surprised the audience with a home-made "super blockbuster", and also re measured the depth and breadth of the Chinese film market. The appearance of this film is a match for Hollywood. Although there are shortcomings in many aspects, it is undeniable that it not only allows Chinese soldiers to take a step towards the world, but also opens up a road worth learning for the emergence of more domestic films.
However, the localization of the film industry found in War Wolf II was achieved by Wu Jing and his team after a long time of learning and practice. In the film shooting, the action team of Captain America, the underwater photography team of Pirates of the Caribbean, and the music composer in Hollywood have cooperated. The team experience accumulated in this process is the most valuable, and is also the most needed by Chinese films in the 21st century. War Wolf II marks the critical point of Chinese film, and the future development needs more and better filmmakers to practice [70] (1905 film online review)
Wolf 2 HD poster
"War Wolf II" is popular with the audience, not only because of the intense action scenes and careful plot arrangement, but also because it has created a vivid image of a distinctive superhero - Special Forces Cold Front, and successfully aroused the patriotic enthusiasm of the audience through his words and deeds of insisting on protecting Chinese citizens and innocent people from the war zone.
Unlike the previous main theme films, which used to symbolize and plane the roles, the cold front of Wolf II was not "perfect" from the beginning. He was once jailed because his comrade in arms was forced to come forward. He would go to Africa to avenge his girlfriend. Before the villain leader, he did not forget to say "That was the past". He saw both the responsibility of soldiers and the love and hatred of ordinary people, which easily made the audience feel close. The supporting actors in the film have also created their own unique characters in a very limited time. It can be said that it is this "hard work" that faces the reality, does not avoid and does not cover up human weaknesses, which makes the film have a richer and more three-dimensional quality of life, and many audiences have become "tap water" of the film.
In fact, this is not the first time that the theme film has received market acclaim.
