The laboratory has made a series of significant progress in the following research areas: it has made breakthroughs in the sustainable innovation and development of ultra intense and ultra short lasers, invented a number of technologies such as parasitic oscillation suppression, and successfully developed the world's highest peak power femtosecond watt level ultra intense and ultra fast Ti: sapphire laser system, which was reported by the magazine "Nature Photonics" column. Using this device, we have achieved major international leading experimental results in the research of desktop laser nuclear fusion; The research on strong field ultrafast physics has made systematic and original achievements with important international influence, such as the creation of extreme conditions for periodic ultrafast strong fields, the discovery of new space-time characteristics, the discovery of quantum coherence control in periodic and sub periodic time scales, and the discovery of new mechanisms for attosecond coherent radiation, which have made important contributions to the development of new fields such as international extreme nonlinear optics by Chinese scholars; In addition, he also made important original discoveries in the pioneering exploration of new physics and new effect frontier research fields of strong field interaction in the tunable mid infrared new band, and proposed new schemes and mechanisms for accelerating high-energy electrons and protons in the relativistic ultra intense laser field. He has published a number of high-quality papers on journals including the international top physics journal Physical Review Letters, which have been widely cited and highly praised, have had important international academic influence, and have obtained a number of invention patents.

Academic team

After years of efforts, the laboratory has expanded its research field in strong field laser physics and related new frontiers and new directions, forming a team of scientific research talents with reasonable structure, with Academician Xu Zhizhan still working in the front line as the chief and senior academic leader, and the current laboratory director, Researcher Li Ruxin, as the young academic leader. At present, the laboratory has 2 academicians, 17 researchers (13 doctoral supervisors), 14 associate researchers, 10 people selected into the "Hundred Talents Program" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 3 people won National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars Four graduate students cultivated in the laboratory have won the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award. It is particularly worth mentioning that in 2008, the research group of the National 973 Program "Several Important Frontier Issues in Ultra intense and Ultra short Laser Science", which is presided over by the laboratory and whose chief scientist is Academician Xu Zhizhan, was awarded the "973 Program Excellent Research Team".

Exchange and cooperation

edit
Since it was approved for construction in 2005, the laboratory has gathered outstanding talents at home and abroad to carry out cooperative research in the laboratory through open topics and other forms, and has made significant progress and several breakthroughs. In addition, the laboratory has maintained long-term and substantive cooperative research with famous universities and research institutions in the United States, Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Belgium, South Korea and other countries, and hosted and co organized four important international conferences in this field. Since 1998, the laboratory has held a "National Conference on Strong Field Laser Physics" every two years, gathering a group of well-known scientists and young scholars in relevant research fields at home and abroad, to fully exchange and display the latest achievements and important progress made in the field of strong field ultrafast laser science and technology, especially in this field in China. The laboratory has gradually become an important base for domestic and international exchanges and cooperative research in the frontier discipline of strong field laser physics, and has been evaluated as "first rate laser lab" and "the best in high intensity ultra fast optical physics in China" by internationally renowned peer scientists.
With the strong support of Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, the supporting unit of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the laboratory will provide a good working foundation and a world-class research and training base for young scientific and technological talents for the implementation of the country's medium - and long-term development plans and major construction plans in the field of this discipline and for the achievement of major scientific and technological achievements. It is planned to build the laboratory into one of the world's first-class and famous laser physics research centers, with some of the research in the international leading position and the overall international advanced level. At the same time, strive to build a first-class international exchange and cooperation research base in the field of this discipline, and a base for training and attracting young scientific and technological talents.
