Zuo Tieyong is mainly engaged in teaching and scientific research on refractory metal materials, rare earth functional materials, aluminum magnesium materials and their processing technology[1]。
The research group of "lanthanum molybdenum and other hot cathode materials and preparation technology" won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Invention Award in 2004
Key achievements
In 1995, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Zuo Tieyong, male (1936 -) academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and material scientist.Director of the Academic Committee of Beijing University of Technology[6]。The research group of "lanthanum molybdenum and other hot cathode materials and preparation technology" won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Invention Award in 2004, and the "Introduction to Materials Science and Engineering" as the lecturer was awarded the national excellent course in 2006.
In 1954, Zuo Tieyong entered Northeast Institute of Technology(Now Northeast University)Majored in metal pressure processing.
In 1958, he entered Central South University of Technology after graduation(NowCentral South University)He has been a professor, doctoral supervisor and vice president. In January 1960, he joined the Communist Party of China.
In 1991, he served as the Director of the Science and Technology Department of the State Education Commission (to 1996).In 1994, he served as the vice president of China Nonferrous Metals Society.
In 1995, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, affiliated to the Department of Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (Material Synthesis and Processing)[2]。
In 1996, he served as President of Beijing University of Technology (until 2004).
In April 2005, the Institute of Circular Economy of Beijing University of Technology was established, with Zuo Tieyong as the president[4]。
In 2006, it was awarded the 6th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award by the Chinese Academy of Engineering[7]。
In the early 1970s, Zuo Tieyong undertook the task of chief editor of the first rare metal material processing manual of the Ministry of Metallurgy, for which he and other experts climbed mines and factories together. In the process of investigation and research, he found that China's tungsten and molybdenum mineral resources, which ranked first in the world, were in a state of serious loss. In the face of this situation, Zuo Tieyong and other experts jointly wrote a letter to the State Council, calling for the development of China's tungsten and molybdenum deep processing industry. In order to develop the deep processing industry, we should first solve the problem of tungsten and molybdenum brittleness through repeated experiments and in-depth research,Zuo Tieyong finally accurately revealed the brittle fracture mechanism of tungsten molybdenum materials, clarified the rule of the influence of processing deformation and heat treatment parameters on brittleness, and proposed the strengthening and toughening path of tungsten molybdenum materials and the specific technical scheme[8]。
In his research, Zuo Tieyong also established the "bubble strengthening mechanism" of doped tungsten wire and the "dispersion model" of potassium bubble. He was the first to put forward the view that "excessive potassium enrichment at the grain boundary is an important factor in the brittle fracture of tungsten wire" at home and abroad, and gave the best control amount of potassium, which greatly improved the quality of tungsten wire and filament life in China.Since then, these achievements have been popularized and applied in many factories, promoting the rapid development of tungsten and molybdenum processing products industry, realizing the export of China's tungsten and molybdenum processing products for the first time, creating huge economic and social benefits, and making positive contributions to giving play to China's tungsten and molybdenum resource advantages and changing the situation of "raw material export, product import"[9]。
In the research of rare earth doped molybdenum functional materials, Zuo Tieyong and his team replaced the thorium tungsten cathode with rare earth molybdenum, which has been used for hundreds of years for its high working temperature, high brittleness and radioactive pollution, and successfully made the FU-6051 electron tube, the first practical lanthanum molybdenum cathode in the world. This achievement won the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award in 2004[8]。
Zuo Tieyong, as the general technical director of the "Seventh Five Year Plan" major scientific and technological breakthrough project of the new continuous extrusion technology for aluminum, led the team to complete the contract task one year in advance, and provided the enterprise with a complete set of "technology equipment process" in the form of "key project". After being popularized and applied nationwide, he has achieved huge economic and social benefits. Moreover, this technology has been widely used in copper processing in China, and has become the main supplier of continuous extrusion equipment technology in the world[8]。
In 2004, Zuo Tieyong retired from his school management position and devoted himself to the research field of circular economy[10], under his promotionInstitute of Circular Economy, Beijing University of TechnologyIs the first recycling economy research institute in Beijing universities[4]。
