Licheng Sun, born in August 1962 in Heilongjiang Province Dongning County , physical chemist, expert in the field of artificial photosynthesis, Academician of CAS [21-22] Academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering, member of the European Chemical Society, Swedish National Distinguished Professor, chair professor of the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology, and "highly cited scientist in the world". Sun Licheng received his bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctor's degree in fine chemical engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 1984, 1987 and 1990 respectively; 1992-1993, worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Radiation Chemistry in Germany; 1993-1995 in Germany Free University Berlin As a Humboldt scholar; 1995-1999 Royal Swedish Institute of Technology As an assistant professor; In 1999-2004 Stockholms universitet As an associate professor, he was employed as a chair professor of molecular devices at the Royal Swedish Institute of Technology in 2004. In 2017, he was elected as an academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering, and in 2019, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In August 1962, Sun Licheng was born in Dongning County, Heilongjiang Province.
From September 1977 to July 1980, he studied in No. 1 Middle School (High School) of Dongning County, Heilongjiang Province.
From September 1980 to July 1984, he studied fine chemical engineering in Dalian University of Technology and graduated with a bachelor's degree.

From July 1990 to May 1992, he worked as an assistant researcher in the former Institute of Photochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing.
From May 1992 to May 1993, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Radiation Chemistry in Germany.
From May 1993 to March 1995, he worked as a post doctor of Humboldt scholar in the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Free University of Berlin, Germany.

  • Overview of scientific research
Sun Licheng has conducted in-depth research in the frontier science of solar fuel and solar cell, and has made a series of important scientific achievements. A water oxidation molecular catalyst with the highest efficiency has been developed. Its catalytic efficiency can be almost the same as that of the natural photosynthesis water oxidation center. Experiments have proved that the new mechanism of O-O bond formation in the process of water oxidation is through free radical coupling; A new design strategy of functional devices for hydrogen production by photolysis of water was proposed, and several first molecular catalytic photolysis of water functional devices were developed; Taking the lead in proposing the design method of dye molecules based on push-pull electronic system, which was adopted by international peers; A series of new hole transport materials have been designed and synthesized, which have excellent performance, low cost and promising industrialization prospects.
