The Austrian National Bank (German: Oesterreichische National Bank) is the central bank of Austria and a member of the European Central Bank. The Austrian National Bank, formerly known as the Austrian National Special Bank, was founded in 1816. In 1878, it was restructured as Austro Hungarian Bank. In 1923, it was changed to the Austrian National Bank. In form, the Austrian National Bank is a joint-stock company, and the government owns 70.2% of the shares.
