The predecessor of Tianya District is Fenghuang Town in August 2001, Tianya Town in 1986 and Yucai Town in 2006. In February 2014, the State Council approved the cancellation of Fenghuang Town, Tianya Town and Yucai Town in Sanya to establish Tianya District in Sanya.[13-14][16]Tianya District is named for its location at the ends of the earth.[27]Provincial Highway S314, Haikou Yulin (West) Highway, Hainan Island Ring Expressway and other highways pass through the territory. From north to south, Tianya District is distributed with mountain, hill, platform, river valley, plain and other topographical structures.The terrain of the whole area is high in the north and low in the south. Gaofeng District and Nandao Farm are surrounded by mountains with an altitude of 300-900 meters. The highest mountain is Jianling, with an altitude of 1019 meters.The southern region is relatively gentle, with the altitude mostly 50-100 meters. iron ore
There is Yanglan Xincun Iron Mine in Tianya District, which is a boundary iron ore body and belongs to lean ore with geological reserves of 6.68 million tons. It has not been developed and utilized as of 2010.Located in the original Gaofeng Township area, the red stone iron ore has a proven C+D reserves of 1486000 tons. It is a micro deposit. The ore body is 216-355 meters long, 5.65-34 meters wide, extending 60-120 meters. The ore is mainly magnetite, with an iron grade of 31-46%. It is small in scale and has not been developed and utilized as of 2010.[18]
Marble mine
Marbles in Tianya District are mainly distributed in Liuluo, Yaliang, Baopo, Luopeng and other places in the original Gaofeng Township. As of 2010, the geological department of Liuluo Mining Area has drilled, with a C+D reserve of 1.05 million tons.[18]

Origin of place names

Sanya Tianxing Forest Park, located in Naqin Village, Taling, Tianya District, Sanya City, Hainan Province, is an AAA scenic spot.[20]The scenic spot was originally called Nantian Tropical Botanical Garden. There are various ecological parks in the park, including Orchid World, Strange Melon Orchard, Soilless Cultivation Garden, Tropical Hundred Fruit Garden, Ocean Museum, Nantian Fragrant Tea House, Immortal Botanical Garden, Folk Custom Garden and other scenic spots.[25]
