Supported by the State Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics: Northwestern University The laboratory was established in 1992 on the basis of the original laboratory of the Department of Geology. It was approved as the key laboratory of Shaanxi Province in 1995, became the key laboratory of the Ministry of Education in 2000, and was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the first batch in 2003 Provincial and ministerial co construction of national key laboratory cultivation base In 2005, it passed the application review for the construction of national key laboratories organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2006, it set up a project and successfully passed the acceptance in 2007, officially entering the ranks of national key laboratories. This is the first national key laboratory approved by Northwest University and the only national key laboratory approved by Shaanxi provincial universities.

research field

edit
Based on the 70 year accumulation of geology discipline in Northwest University, the laboratory is based on the particularity of China's mainland in the global commonalities, especially the characteristics and advantages of continental geology and basin mountain in western China, aiming at the international frontier of continental dynamics and the major national demand for geosciences, forming four main research directions of the laboratory:
(1) Orogenic belt and basin dynamics;
(2) Major tectonic events and life evolution;
(3) Evaluation of petroliferous basins and oil and gas resources in western China;
(4) Neotectonics, environmental changes and geological disasters in northwest China.

Instrument and equipment

Announce
edit
The laboratory has a number of advanced large-scale instruments and equipment, and focuses on the construction of laser plasma mass spectrometry analysis, an important supporting means for today's innovative research on geodynamics. It has built a laboratory with international level and characteristics of micro area composition analysis. The level of main analysis and testing has been in line with international standards.

Project achievements

The laboratory has successively presided over one "973" project, seven major and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one major project of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation worth more than 100 million yuan, and two major projects worth more than 10 million yuan. As the first author, he has published 12 high-quality academic papers on Nature and Science, and has won the first and second prizes of the National Natural Science Award, the highest achievement award of science and technology in Shaanxi Province and many other awards. His research achievements have been selected into the "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress in China" twice. Five doctoral theses were selected as one hundred national outstanding doctoral theses. It has made important achievements of world level in the study of continental dynamics in western China, Cambrian life explosion and early life evolution, crust mantle exchange, etc. The theories, methods and key technologies of comprehensive exploration and development of oil and gas resources (energy), as well as the achievements of the research on the changes and evolution of the Cenozoic ecological environment, have made substantial contributions to the sustainable development of China's social economy, the development of the western region, and meeting the country's major strategic needs.
