Datong Station was founded in 1914 as the intersection of Beijing Baotou Railway and Beitongpu Railway. At the beginning of the station construction, there were only nine tracks. After three transformations in 1959, 1980 and 1989, it was expanded four times on June 14, 2015.[2]
As of January 2006, the platform scale of Datong Station is 7 sets and 48 lines, with a building area of 33853 square meters.[3]
In 1914, the Beijing Baotou Railway was built in Datong, and the construction of Datong Station was started.
At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Datong Station added 3 tracks, a total of 20 tracks.
From the early days of the People's Republic of China to 1959, Datong Station was expanded and new passenger stations were built;Datong Xichang was added;The number of tracks in Datong East Station increased to 27.
In 1980, Datong Station hub was expanded again.
In 1989, Datong Station carried out a series of reconstruction projects.
From 1989 to 2000, there were four major expansion projects in Datong Station.[1]
On June 14, 2015, the reconstruction of Datong Station was completed and the station was officially put into operation.[2]
Datong Station adopts a beige tone, which is consistent with the tone of Yungang Grottoes, a tourist attraction in the suburbs of Datong. On the one hand, it will make the building appear low-key, on the other hand, it will also make the building appear calm.[4]

As of January 2000, the total building area of Datong Station is 13967 square meters.The main project has three floors and the office building has five floors.The area of the station is 8000 square meters, including 3000 square meters of waiting room;The service facilities such as restaurants and hotels are 5000 square meters, and 7 shunting machines are equipped.[3]
