The BTS is controlled by the base station controller (BSC) and serves the wireless transceiver equipment of a cell. It completes the conversion between the BSC and the wireless channel, realizes the wireless transmission and related control functions between the BTS and MS through the air interface, and specifically completes the conversion between wireless and wired, wireless diversity, wireless channel encryption, frequency hopping and other functions.

The transmission of mobile communication signals is achieved by controlling the transmission and reception of signals between transceivers and transceivers.

BTS includes baseband unit, carrier frequency unit and control unit.
1. The baseband unit is mainly used for voice and data rate adaptation, channel coding, etc.
2. Carrier frequency unit is mainly used for coupling between modulation/demodulation and transmitter/receiver.
3. The control unit is used for the operation and maintenance of BTS.
BTS includes various hardware and software required for wireless transmission, including:
1. Transmitter and receiver.
2. Antennas required to support various upper cell structures (such as omnidirectional, fan-shaped, star shaped and chain shaped).
3. The signal processing circuit related to the wireless interface realizes the formation and management of frames and time slots required for multiple access multiplexing, as well as the channel encoding, decoding, encryption, decryption, rate adaptation and other functions required for improving wireless transmission.
4. Detection and control devices required by the transceiver itself.
