In the middle of the inner circle is the image sign of "Phoenix Bell Tower". Below the image sign is the word "1896", representing the year when the school was first founded. [118]
The image sign of Phoenix Bell Tower is based on the ancient architectural image and phoenix nirvana totem of the former Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and West China Medical University, which can represent the spirit of traditional Chinese culture and symbolize the century old school. On both sides of the clock are a pair of phoenix singing to each other. The word "Chuan U" is formed between the two phoenixes. U stands for "University", and together with the negative form of "Chuan", it means "Sichuan University". At the same time, the three water veins of the three strokes of the character "Chuan" extend upward and converge to form a person who stands up to the sky and stands upright. At the lower end is the abbreviation M of "Men". Spiritual culture

  • School motto
The motto of Sichuan University is "inclusive and inclusive", which is a general summary of the overall value pursuit of Sichuan University in terms of its development history, school running characteristics, talent training, scientific research, social services, international exchanges, etc. [121]
"The sea embraces all rivers, and the capacity is great" first reflects the unity of the history and reality of school development. It reflects the history of continuous integration, reform and development of the former three universities of Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and West China Medical University, as well as the profound historical origins between them, and also directly reflects the reality of the "three strong merger" of the new Sichuan University. Secondly, it embodies the unity of inheritance and innovation. Sichuan University is an important base for the production and dissemination of new ideas and concepts, as well as a demonstration area and radiation source of advanced social culture. The school is rooted in the fertile soil of the five thousand year civilization of the Chinese nation, absorbs and digests all the outstanding cultural heritage in the world with the broad mind of embracing all rivers, and creates high-level achievements of human civilization in the blending of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign cultures. Thirdly, it embodies the unity of science and democratic spirit. Sichuan University has a wide range of disciplines, such as literature, science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, law, and art. All disciplines are like a crowd of people gathering, stirring up and merging with each other, so as to constantly produce marginal disciplines, cross disciplines, and emerging disciplines, and promote the rapid development of science and technology. At the same time, "the sea contains all rivers, and tolerance is great" is also the embodiment of the democratic spirit. The university is a stage for the collision and dialogue of various cultural trends of thought, and also a sea of convergence of academic ideas of various schools of thought. A hundred schools of thought contend and a hundred flowers blossom. [121]
"The sea embraces all rivers, and tolerance is great" not only contains a variety of spiritual connotations, but also happens to be embedded“ Sichuan University ”Two words. [121]

  • school song
The School Song of Sichuan University was collected from the school song of Zhang Lan when she was president in the history of the school. Zhang Lan and others wrote lyrics and composed music anonymously. [122]
In 1926, Zhang Lan took the post of President of National Chengdu University, one of the predecessors of Sichuan University. During her leadership, Zhang Lan personally revised the lyrics of the original "School Song of Sichuan Provincial City Higher School", forming the school song. [122]
The lyrics of the original school song, which was revised by Zhang Lan, are short and concise, rich in connotation, based on the Min'e Tianfu, deep in the Chinese context, with a strong sense of cultural inheritance, innovation and prosperity, simple and beautiful melody, catchy, not only magnificent, but also extraordinary realm. The images of "grand river", "sonorous phoenix" and so on hit the integration reform practice of Sichuan University, which is open to all rivers and determined to innovate, while the expressions of "culture and education", "leaders and heroes" and so on reflected the talent training goal of Sichuan University. Therefore, the song is determined to be the school song of Sichuan University. [122]
