Among the guests who appeared at the wedding banquet were director Ang Lee.
The film was shot in 1993, and Ang Lee wrote the script six years ago.
The plot of the first half of the film comes from the personal experience of Ang Lee's friend Feng Guangyuan, who also participated in the script writing of the film[4]。

The biggest feature of the film is to deal with the homosexual problem with the unique family ethics and the golden mean concept of the Chinese people, so that this social problem that almost troubles all families can be solved in a comedy way in the film. This way of dealing with homosexuality and the idea of treating homosexuality are oriental, and even similar views can be found in Chinese classical novels. But this story happened in New York, the most prosperous and modern city. Classical and modern meet here, and new and old ideas are inclusive after conflict. In his telling stories, Ang Lee conveys the perplexity, helplessness and tolerance of a traditional Chinese family in the face of modern concepts in modern society.
The theme of the film continues the director Ang Lee's concern about the ethical and moral conflicts under the multicultural background and the complicated interpersonal emotional disputes caused by them. The layout of the first half of the film may make people think that the gunpowder primer buried in it is enough to blow up an ethical institution that has imprisoned individuals for thousands of years, and there are many question marks that people chew and ponder. But what Ang Lee showed in the face of such complicated problems is not to affirm or subvert the ideological sharpness of any moral values, but his calm narrative ability.Ang Lee's outstanding feature lies in his ability to skillfully weave these clues, unfold the story layer by layer, and push the drama to the climax of conflict. At the same time, he carefully balances various characters' meticulous portrayal and many cracks in value and emotion with a common name of "love"[1]。(Sina Online Review)
