As one of the earliest cancer specialized institutions in China, the hospital has become an important medical teaching and research base of oncology in China, a World Health Organization Cancer Cooperative Research Center, a national key discipline of oncology, and a national clinical trial and research center for new drugs (anti-tumor drugs). In 2002, the "Key Laboratory of Tumor Related Genes and Antitumor Drugs Research of the Ministry of Education" was established.
