Xizhimen Station is an important station of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway (Fengtai Liucun Zhangjiakou, Beijing), the first trunk railway independently designed and built in China. The main building of the station, the platform, and the overpass connecting the two platforms are Zhan Tianyou Design.
In the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923), the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway was connected to Suiyuan. At that time, Beijing was called "Beiping", so it was renamed "Pingsui Railway". Xizhimen Station was renamed Xizhimen Station of Pingsui Railway. Later, the Ping Sui Railway was opened to Baotou and renamed "Beijing Baotou Railway".
In the 1970s, several sections of railways in the urban area of Beijing were demolished, and Xizhimen Railway Station became the departure and terminal station of the Beijing Baotou Railway and the Beijing Tongtong Railway. Passengers from Beijing to Tongliao, Chifeng, Badaling Great Wall and other places in Inner Mongolia all started from Beijing North Railway Station.

In 1995, the former site of Xizhimen Station of Pingsui Railway became the fifth batch of cultural relics protection units in Beijing.
In 2005, the reconstruction project of Beijing North Railway Station was officially started. The project mainly includes the expansion of the station building, the large-span platform column free canopy project similar to Beijing Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station, and the reconstruction of the platform, railway lines and traffic signals, with a total investment of 110 million yuan.
In 2007, the new construction project of Beijing North Railway Station was officially opened. The new station building is six floors high.
In December 2008, the new construction of Beijing North Railway Station was completed.
On January 17, 2009, the new building of Beijing North Railway Station was officially opened. [7]

Except the departure and destination stations of Beijing Suburban Railway Line S2 in the city were relocated to Huangtulian Station, other passenger transport businesses were transferred to Changping North Railway Station.
On December 10, 2019, China Railway Beijing Bureau Group Co., Ltd. released pictures of stations along the Beijing North Railway Station and Taizicheng Station of Chongli Railway. [8]
On December 30, 2019, Beijing North Railway Station officially resumed operation after three years of outage, and the first train started at 8:30. After being put into operation, the "rail transit time" between Beijing and Zhangjiakou will be reduced from 3 hours to about 50 minutes [9]
On September 30, 2020, Huairou Miyun Line of Beijing North Railway Station Suburban Railway was officially put into operation. Architectural design

  • Former Xizhimen Station
The original Xizhimen Station is surrounded by the Gaoliang River and the moat in the east-west direction, and there is a large reed pond in the north of the station. The plane of the station is similar to a rectangle. The main station building covers an area of 2300 square meters. The front entrance of the station is a three hole external vestibule, and a corridor is also used on the side facing the platform. The platform is parallel. The direction of passengers entering the station is perpendicular to the platform. There is an iron frame overpass across the railway. The station building is of western classical style, which is an important physical example in the history of Chinese railway development. After the new station building of Beijing North Railway Station was officially opened, the old main station building built in the first year of Xuantong (1909) of the Qing Dynasty served as Ping Sui Railway The old site of Xizhimen Station is preserved as a cultural relic.
  • New Beijing North Railway Station
The construction area of Beijing North Railway Station is 21400 square meters, and the height is 31.5 meters. The effective length of the platform is extended from 377 meters to 550 meters. The platform is paved with marble, and the effective length is extended from 377 meters to 550 meters, and from 70 centimeters to 125 centimeters. All railway tracks in the station are made of domestic 50 kg/m high strength, high flatness seamless rails, and domestic type II reinforced concrete sleepers are used to replace the original wooden sleepers, so as to improve the stability and comfort of passenger train operation. All traffic signal equipment adopts new computer centralized interlocking to improve the automation and intelligent control capability of the station, thus increasing the safety factor of train operation.

Overall layout

The main station building of Beijing North Railway Station is located at the south end of the platform. It is a north-south longitudinal terminal railway station, which is divided into six floors above the ground and two floors underground. Among them, the ground floor and the underground floor are used by passengers for waiting, with waiting hall and ticket office. The station is connected to Xizhimen traffic hub, and can transfer with Metro Line 2, Line 4 and Line 13 underground. [5] The second to fifth floors above the ground are for office use, and the second floor underground is for equipment use.
The waiting rooms of Beijing North Railway Station will be located on the south side of the West District. There are three ticket halls in the station, which are located on the right side of the ground floor and on the east and west sides of the underground floor, with 24 windows in total. The new station building of Beijing North Railway Station is closer to Xizhimen overpass and Xizhimen transportation hub than the old station building.
