Research direction and main contents of the laboratory: Take major pests and rodents as the research object, combine macro and micro, and give full play to ecology, physiology biochemistry molecular biology information science And other disciplines, focusing on the population dynamics and outbreak mechanism of pests and rats, reproductive behavior and regulation, chemical communication and co evolution of animals and plants, pest resistance management and biological control measures, as well as the impact of global change, biodiversity evolution and transgenic organisms on the occurrence of pests and rats and biological security, Reveal the population change and disaster mechanism of insect pests and rats, establish an early warning system of insect pests and rats, develop the coevolution theory of insect pests and rats with plants and natural enemies, propose new methods of ecological regulation, open up new ways of pollution-free control, and provide theoretical basis and technical support for the sustainable control of agricultural insect pests and rats.

At present, the laboratory has 14 researchers and 14 doctoral supervisors, of which 57% are under 45 years old. Three people in the laboratory were supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one person entered the Hundred Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and one person Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding talents emerge Recreation Zhang Zhibin Zhang Dexing And 8 outstanding young academic leaders. Through the joint efforts of all staff and graduate students, the laboratory has formed a good trend of unity, mutual assistance, taking the overall situation into consideration and the old, middle and young people cooperating with each other, and formed a reasonable research team with young and middle-aged research teams as the main body and capable technical and management personnel.

Since its construction, the laboratory has completed 130 subjects at all levels and published 789 academic papers, including 109 papers in international journals and 638 papers in domestic core journals. He has published 3 English monographs and 17 Chinese monographs. It has obtained 4 national invention patents and 11 technology transfer projects. Surrounded by national goals and academic frontiers, the laboratory has made a lot of innovative research achievements. For example, the research on grassland locust ecology has clarified the occurrence dynamics and population characteristics of the composite population, revealed the composition and succession law of grassland locust flora in Inner Mongolia, the regional and ecological distribution law and the relationship with vegetation changes. For the first time in the world, this paper systematically compared the life history of grassland locusts in Asia and North America, locust management techniques and strategies, and provided a theoretical basis for the sustainable control of locusts in the world. In January 2001, this research won the third prize of the National Natural Science Award. In addition, 24 research projects, including research and application of countermeasures and technologies for cotton bollworm disaster reduction, won the Natural Science Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Science and Technology Progress Award, the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Agriculture and other provincial and ministerial awards. Since its construction, the laboratory has always regarded the construction of scientific and technological teams as a strategic task. Through careful training and planned introduction of academic leaders from abroad, various measures have been taken to cultivate and stabilize a group of outstanding young backbone with active academic ideas, solid basic knowledge, and hard work, forming a high-quality scientific and technological team.

Since the construction of the laboratory, it has received 95 senior visiting scholars from the United States, Australia, Britain, France, Japan, Russia, the Netherlands, South Korea and other countries and regions. The laboratory has also sent 76 people to research institutes and universities in the United States, Australia, France, South Korea and other countries for visits and cooperative research through World Bank loan projects and other channels, 54 people attended international academic conferences. Through academic exchanges, our laboratory has established a fixed cooperative relationship with some well-known international institutions, and some research projects have been completed or are under implementation. Among them, the cooperation with CSIRO Institute of Wildlife and Ecology in Australia has made substantial progress in the research of mouse infertility vaccine. In order to strengthen international academic exchanges, the laboratory hosted and co organized six international conferences. Our laboratory has approved 71 open projects, which have promoted the development of our cutting-edge basic research and laid a solid foundation for the preliminary work of further striving for national projects.
