Intermediate station

The most common station in rail transit lines
The intermediate station is the most common station in the rail transit line. It is only used by passengers to get on and off the train. It has a single function, especially in the early stage of the construction of the rail transit network, when the number of line intersections is not much. [1]

The railway line is divided into several traction sections, each of which has many stations, two Technical station Between station It is called intermediate station. Its main task is to handle the arrival and departure, passing and overtaking of trains, as well as passenger and freight transport business.
Intermediate stations are stations set up to serve urban and rural people along the line and industrial and agricultural production, improve the passing capacity of railway sections, and ensure traffic safety. They are generally located in the sections between technical stations (or on branch lines). Intermediate stations can be divided into intermediate stations without freight yards and intermediate stations with freight yards according to the volume of cargo operations handled; According to the mutual position of arrival departure tracks, they can be divided into horizontal type (referring to the arrival departure tracks arranged in parallel) and vertical type (referring to the arrival departure tracks arranged in vertical along the main line).
The intermediate station generally adopts the horizontal type, which occupies less land, saves investment, centralizes equipment and is convenient for management.
The tandem type does not have the above advantages. At present, the tandem type is only used when the single track railway is restricted by the terrain in mountainous and river valley areas or needs to organize non-stop meeting to improve the section capacity. [2]

Operation content

The operations handled by the intermediate station are as follows:
(1) Train passing, passing and overtaking. On the double track railway, the shunting operation for adjusting trains running in the opposite direction is also handled.
(2) Passenger boarding and landing, baggage and parcel transportation, storage and delivery.
(3) Carriage, loading and unloading, storage and delivery of goods.
(4) Vehicle uncoupling of uncoupling trains and shunting operation of uncoupling vehicles to the freight yard or picking up and delivering vehicles to the special line.
If there is an industrial enterprise line in the intermediate station that is connected to the track, or when the end point and locomotive turn back are caused by afterburning traction, it is also necessary to handle operations such as pick-up and delivery of industrial enterprise lines, uncoupling and coupling of complementary machines, waiting for shifts, locomotive servicing and turning. At individual intermediate stations with large passenger and freight traffic volume, there are also operations of starting and ending passenger trains and marshalling of starting freight trains. [3]

equipment

In order to complete the operation, the intermediate station shall set the following equipment according to the nature of the operation and the workload.
(1) Passenger transport equipment: including passenger stations (ticket office, waiting room, compartment), passenger platforms, canopies and crossing equipment (overpass, underpass, flat aisle);
(2) Freight equipment: including cargo warehouse, cargo yard, cargo platform and cargo room, loading and unloading machinery, etc;
(3) In station lines: including train arrival and departure tracks, cargo loading and unloading tracks, as well as lead lines and safety lines for shunting;
(4) Signal and communication equipment: including annunciator Signal indicator In station telephone, intercom machine, broadcasting and public address facilities, etc. [3]

Freight yard setting

The freight yard is an important link to link production, transportation and marketing, and an important facility to promote industrial and agricultural production and serve the local people. The location of the freight yard of the intermediate station shall be selected according to the factors such as the source of goods, the direction of freight flow, environmental protection, urban planning, local topography, geological conditions, whether there is an industrial enterprise line or branch line, local transportation system and the utilization of existing equipment. In order to facilitate shunting operation, the freight yard shall be set at the front end of the arrival departure track along the running direction as far as possible.
The freight yard of intermediate stations generally has five positions: station to left, station to right, station to left, station to right, and station to combination. At stations where bulk goods such as mine construction and coal or other seasonal goods are loaded and unloaded, and whole or group trains are often organized to arrive and depart. It shall be considered to arrange a long cargo line connecting the throat areas at both ends on the opposite side of the station building.
The transverse layout of the freight yard on the same side of the station building has the following advantages: ① it is convenient for the station staff to manage the freight yard; ② There is no restriction for the station line to develop to the opposite side of the station building; ③ If the local source and flow of goods are on the same side of the station building (as is the case in most cases), it is also convenient for the consignee and consignor to pick up and deliver goods without crossing the railway. Disadvantages: When the train connected to the opposite side of the station building is shunting, it will inevitably cross the main line.
If the source and flow of goods are on the opposite side of the station building, or the distribution direction of goods is on the same side of the station building, but it is not suitable to set up a freight yard on the same side due to topographic conditions, and the proportion of picking and hanging operations on the opposite side of the station building is large, the freight yard can be set on the opposite side of the station building. This arrangement can avoid the crossing of the pick and drop train operation on the line opposite the terminal building with the main line, and the development of the freight yard is not restricted by the town. However, if the local source and flow of goods are on the same side of the station building, it is inconvenient to increase the handling distance of the consignee and the consignor, and it needs to cross the railway. A special passage across the railway line is required to facilitate local handling. In addition, in order not to affect the transverse development of the freight yard of the station, the distance between the freight line and the arrival departure line should reserve space for additional lines in the future.
