In 1966, under the leadership of the Director of the Urban Construction Bureau of the former Ministry of Construction, the Academic Committee for Urban Landscaping was prepared to be established, which was set up in the Architectural Society of China. Later, it was interrupted due to the "Cultural Revolution".
In December 1978, during the National Urban Landscaping Work Conference held in Jinan, Shandong Province, the founding meeting of the Academic Committee on Landscaping of the Chinese Architectural Society was held.
From November 15 to 17, 1983, with the consent of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and the approval of the Chinese Architectural Society, the founding meeting of the Landscape Society of the Chinese Architectural Society was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. [2]
From November 17 to 20, 1989, the founding meeting of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held in Hangzhou. [3]
From November 28 to 30, 1993, the second national representative meeting of members of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. [4]
From November 24 to 26, 1999, the third national member representative conference of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held in Shanghai. [5]
On October 25, 2013, the fifth National Congress of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held at the International Academic Exchange Center of Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan. [6]
On January 13, 2018, the sixth national member representative meeting of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held in Guangzhou Guangdong Science Museum. [7]
On December 30, 2022, the 7th National Congress of Members of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was held in Beijing. [8]

Institutional setup

  • The highest authority
The Assembly of Member Representatives is the highest authority of the Institute, exercising the following functions and powers:
(1) To formulate and revise the Articles of Association of the Society;
(2) Elect and remove directors and supervisors;
(3) Review the work report and financial report of the Council;
(4) Formulate and revise the membership fee standard;
(5) Decide on termination;
(6) Conduct commendation and reward activities;
(7) To decide on other major matters as stipulated in the Articles of Association.
The general meeting of member representatives can be convened only when more than two-thirds of the members' representatives are present, and its resolution can take effect only when more than half of the members' representatives present vote. The formulation and amendment of the Articles of Association shall be approved by more than two-thirds of the representatives of the members present at the meeting, and shall not be voted by acclamation.
According to the articles of association of the society, the member representative conference is held for four years. If the term of office needs to be changed in advance or postponed due to special circumstances, it must be voted by the Council in accordance with relevant regulations, reported to the competent business unit for review and approved by the society registration authority. However, the extension shall not exceed one year. [9]
  • Actuator
The Council is the executive body of the General Assembly of Members, leading the Institute to carry out daily work when the General Assembly of Members is not in session, and is responsible for the General Assembly of Members.
The Council shall exercise the following functions and powers:
(1) Implement the resolutions of the General Assembly of Members;
(2) Elect and remove the executive directors, vice chairmen and chairmen, and appoint and dismiss the secretary-general;
(3) To prepare for the convening of the General Assembly of Member Representatives;
(4) Report work and financial status to the member congress;
(5) To decide on the establishment, change and cancellation of offices, branches, representative offices and entities;
(6) To decide on the appointment of the Deputy Secretary General and the principal heads of each institution;
(7) To lead the work of all institutions of the Institute;
(8) Develop internal management system;
(9) Responsible for the development and delisting of members;
(10) Perform other functions and powers specified in the Articles of Association.
The Council shall meet at least once a year. The board of directors can be convened only when more than two-thirds of the directors are present, and its resolution can take effect only when more than two-thirds of the directors present vote. If the directors cannot attend the meeting, they can entrust representatives to attend and have the right to vote by proxy. Matters decided democratically shall not be voted by acclamation.
The institute establishes a standing council. The Standing Council shall be elected by the Council. When the Council is not in session, it shall exercise the functions and powers specified in Article 20 (1), (3), (5), (6), (7), (8) and (9) of the Articles of Association and be responsible to the Council.
The Standing Council shall hold at least one meeting every six months. The executive council can be convened only when more than two-thirds of the executive directors are present, and its resolution can take effect only after being voted by more than two-thirds of the executive directors present at the meeting.   • Member classification
Types of members: individual members and unit members. Individual members are the main body of the society. [9]
  • Membership conditions
Members who apply to join the society must meet the following conditions:
(1) Support the constitution of the society;
(2) Willing to join the society;
(3) Has certain influence in the business (industry, discipline) of the Institute;
1. Individual members: Those who meet one of the following conditions can apply to become individual members of the Institute.
(1) Landscape technology workers who have obtained professional and technical titles such as engineers, lecturers, assistant researchers or master's degrees or above;
(2) A staff member who has graduated from a university with a bachelor's degree and has been engaged in landscape architecture for more than three years or has equivalent academic level and work experience;
(3) Those who have not graduated from colleges and universities, but have engaged in landscape architecture for many years, have considerable academic level and practical experience, and have made certain achievements and contributions;
(4) Enthusiastic and actively supporting the work of the Institute, experienced and successful managers who have been engaged in landscape architecture construction and management for many years.
2. Unit members: enterprises, institutions and social organizations engaged in scientific research, teaching, design, construction, production and management of landscape architecture business can apply to become unit members of the Institute (except for civil society organizations in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). [9]
  • Membership procedures
The membership procedures are:
(1) Individual membership:
1. Individuals with individual membership conditions can submit an application for membership to the Society, which shall be approved by the Secretariat of the Society authorized by the Standing Council;
2. Individual membership certificates shall follow the uniform coding rules formulated by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, and the secretariat of the Society shall code individual members nationwide.
(2) Membership of unit members:
1. Units that meet the requirements of unit membership can submit an application for membership to the Society, which will be reviewed by the Secretariat of the Society and reported to the Standing Council for approval;
2. The unit membership certificate shall be uniformly produced and issued by the Society;
(3) According to the relevant regulations of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, the Society can directly develop members, or entrust provincial, municipal and autonomous regional societies to develop members according to the membership conditions, and report to the Society for registration and filing, with a unified code.   • Rights of Members
Membership Rights:
(1) Voluntary membership and freedom to withdraw;
(2) Enjoy the right to vote, stand for election and vote of the Institute;
(3) Participate in the activities of the Society;
(4) The priority and preferential right to obtain the services of the Institute;
(5) The right to criticize, suggest and supervise the work of the Institute;
(6) Other rights stipulated in the association. [9]
  • Obligations of Members
Members shall perform the following obligations:
(1) Abide by the Articles of Association of the Institute and implement the resolutions of the Institute;
(2) Safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Institute;
(3) Complete the work assigned by the society;
(4) Reflect the situation to the society and provide relevant information;
(5) Pay membership dues on time in accordance with the Association;
(6) Other obligations stipulated in the association. [9]
  • Withdrawal instructions
A member who withdraws from the association shall notify the association in writing and return the membership card.
If a member fails to pay the membership fee for one year, the association will notify the member to make up; Failure to fulfill the obligation of paying membership fees as stipulated in the Articles of Association of the Society shall be deemed as automatic withdrawal from the Association, and re application for membership shall be re approved. Those who do not pay their dues cannot become candidates for directors or executive directors.
If a member seriously violates the Articles of Association, he/she shall be expelled after being voted by the Council or the Standing Council. [9]

Activity communication

On April 28, 2020, the launching activity of the first Beijing International Garden Festival was held in the Beijing World Horticultural Exposition Park. The first Beijing International Garden Festival was co sponsored by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, the Beijing International Horticultural Exposition Coordination Bureau, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscaping (the Office of the Capital Afforestation Commission), and the Yanqing District Government of Beijing. It is the first international garden exhibition in Beijing. [11]
On October 23, 2021, the 17th China Japan South Korea Landscape Architecture Academic Seminar, co sponsored by the Chinese Landscape Architecture Society, the Japanese Landscape Architecture Society and the Korean Landscape Architecture Society, and co organized by the Chinese Landscape Architecture Magazine and the Landscape Architecture Magazine, was held in Beijing. The theme of the seminar is "Natural and Cultural Heritage and a Better Life". At the meeting, experts and scholars from China, Japan and South Korea shared their research results around three topics, namely, "integrating culture and nature - landscape and ideal life", "rural landscape and traditional wisdom", and "cultural nature of nature - landscape as cultural habitat". On April 15, 2023, the 13th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture was opened in Changsha Beichen International Convention Center. The annual conference was hosted by the China Landscape Architecture Society, hosted by the Hunan Provincial Landscape Architecture Society and other units, supported by the Department of Housing and Urban Rural Development of Hunan Province and the Changsha Municipal People's Government. The theme of the conference was "beautiful and common landscape architecture: people and nature, harmonious coexistence". More than 2000 universities, research institutes, enterprises and media from landscape architecture and related industries participated in the conference. [13]

  • Science and Technology Award of China Landscape Architecture Society
The Science and Technology Award of China Landscape Architecture Society aims to encourage landscape architecture research institutes, colleges and universities, enterprises and institutions, and all sectors of society to invest in science and technology in the field of landscape architecture, mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of scientific and technological personnel, improve the planning and design, engineering construction technology, and the overall scientific and technological level of the industry, improve the scientific and technological innovation ability of the industry, and accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The awarding objects are units and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting scientific and technological progress, innovation and promotion in various fields of Chinese landscape architecture. Science popularization activities

On April 6, 2023, the series of popular science activities of China's "Landscape Month" in 2023 (Yichang Station, Hubei Province), launched by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, opened at the "Gardening Posthouse" of Yichang Institute of Landscape Plants. The activity was centered on the theme of "Landscape Architecture Creates a Sustainable and Beautiful Life". More than 50 representatives from Hubei Provincial Landscape Architecture Society, Ezhou City Landscape Architecture Bureau, Yichang Landscape Architecture Society, Yichang Plant Research Institute, Colorful Landscape Architecture, University of the Elderly Gardening Class and other units or departments participated in the opening activities. From September 18 to 19, 2019, the "National Landscape Industry Technical Standards Publicity and Implementation and Landscape Engineering Construction Method Compilation and Research Training Class" was opened in Nanjing. The conference was hosted by China Landscape Architecture Society and undertaken by Jiangsu Landscape Architecture Association. More than 160 people participated in the training, including the heads of the competent departments and management units of landscape architecture industry in some provinces and cities in China, the heads of landscape engineering construction enterprises, relevant design institutes, and local schools (associations).
