The predecessor of China University of Mining and Technology wasBritish Fortune(Peking Syndicate Limited)Jiaozuo Road and Mine School。Jiaozuo Railway and Mining College is one of the three private colleges and the only private engineering college run by foreigners in the late Qing Dynasty. It is also the first mining college founded in China and has been continuing to this day. It ranks among the first batch of modern universities in China.

In February 1919, after holding a special undergraduate course, the school became a special school with both preparatory and undergraduate courses.
In the summer of 1921, the university added undergraduate courses and changed its name toFuzhong Mining University。
3. Jiaozuo Institute of Technology
In April 1931, it was renamedPrivate Jiaozuo Institute of TechnologyAnd became the only private engineering college in China at that time.Counter-Japanese WarIn the outbreak, the school first moved to Xi'an, Shaanxi, then Tianshui, Gansu, and moved to Chenggu, Shaanxi in 1938.
In July 1946, Jiaozuo Institute of Technology resumed its schooling in Luoyang, Henan Province, and moved to Zhengzhou, Henan Province, in October.
In September 1947, the school moved to Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
In April 1949, Suzhou was liberated and renamed National Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.In September, it was moved back to the original site of Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.In December, the Central People's Government allocated Jiaozuo Institute of Technology to the leadership of the Ministry of Fuel Industry.
In March 1950, North China Coal Mine College was incorporated into Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.
4. China Institute of Mining and Technology
In September 1950, the Central People's Government decided to build the first mining institution of higher learning in New China - China Institute of Mining on the basis of Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.
In February 1951, all teachers, students, staff, books, instruments and equipment of Jiaozuo Institute of Technology were moved to Tianjin.

6. Period of Sichuan Institute of Mining and Technology
In May 1970, there were 13 schools in China Academy of Mining and Technology“Relocation of Beijing University”One of the universities, moved from Beijing to Hechuan County, Sichuan Province (now Sanhui Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing), and renamed as Sichuan Institute of Mining.
In February 1978, with the approval of the State Council, it was rebuilt in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, and the name of China Institute of Mining and Technology was restored.In the same year, the Beijing Graduate Department of China Institute of Mining and Technology was established to recruit and train graduate students.
In November 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the university became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.

As of May 2024, the campuses of China University of Mining and Technology are divided into Nanhu Campus and Wenchang Campus, covering a total area of 4413 mu, with a building area of more than 1.3 million square meters. The school library has 2.26 million books and 890000 digital books.As the undergraduate base, Nanhu Campus is a modern university campus integrating informatization, landscaping and ecology.It is located in the southern suburbs of Xuzhou City, bordering South Third Ring Road to the north, Xiaonan Lake across the road, Xincha Road to the east, Yunlong Lake Park, Quanshan Scenic Area, and the foot of Lali Mountain to the west.There are mountains and water here, which is typical of the water town environment. It covers a total area of 2858 mu, about 1700 meters long from north to south, and about 1200 meters wide from east to west, in an irregular rectangle.The north area mainly consists of more than 10 college experimental buildings, professional laboratories, electronic experimental centers, CAD experimental centers, training centers, etc;The south area is mainly a public teaching building and a teaching administrative office building[63]。

The student living area of China University of Mining and Technology is located in the west of Nanhu Campus, at the foot of Xidalali Mountain, facing the teaching area across the water.The buildings in the area are finger shaped, which makes the scenery of Lali Mountain permeate into it and integrate with the ecological communication zone in the school.The ecological sharing area formed by blue water, green island and square is located between the teaching area and student living area. Its terrain, landform and water system adopt the concept of Jiangnan garden, forming a winding water surface. There are a large number of hydrophilic platforms and squares on the bank, which is the main place for teachers and students to do their spare time activities.At regular intervals, pedestrian bridges across the river connect the east and west banks, dividing the central ecological zone into a series of clear or winding spaces.
The sports of China University of Mining and Technology is divided into two regions, the north and the south.The South Sports Area is the main sports area, which is located in the southwest corner of the South Lake Campus. There are swimming pools, stadiums, sports centers (main stadiums), etc., and an entrance is connected to the city roads, which is convenient for opening to the society and realizing resource sharing;The north sports area is between the two dormitory areas, which is convenient for students to use.Sports venues include: 3 400m standard track and field courts, 30 basketball courts, 4 volleyball courts, 10 tennis courts, 45 badminton courts, etc.
