Founded in 1957, Journal of Chinese Libraries is a comprehensive academic journal in the field of library and information science sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the National Library of China and the Chinese Library Association.[1-2]
In 1957, Library Science Newsletter was first published, renamed Library for a short time, and later changed back to Library Science Newsletter;In 1993, it was renamed Journal of Chinese Libraries.[3]

In September 1997, the symposium commemorating the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Journal of Chinese Libraries was held in Beijing Library.[6]
In September 2007, the symposium to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Journal of Chinese Libraries was held in the Wenhui Hall of the National Library.[3]
In December 2014, the journal became the first batch of academic journals recognized by the former State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.[7]

The Journal of Chinese Library mainly focuses on monographs in the fields of library science, bibliography and philology, and appropriately introduces the knowledge of neighboring disciplines.
In order to strengthen the academic nature of the journal, promote the internationalization of the journal, and further standardize the research of this discipline, the journal has adjusted the column settings since 2012 to: research papers, review and introduction, exploration and exchange, and thematic research.[8]
