The Chinese Society for Sustainable Development (CSSD) was founded on October 27, 1991 by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China The supervisor is a national social group composed of experts, scholars, social management workers and entrepreneurs who support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, take the Constitution of the People's Republic of China as the fundamental activity criterion, and care about the sustainable development of China's society, economy, resources and environment. [2]
As of November 2020, the China Society for Sustainable Development has seven working committees and ten professional committees. [8]

On October 27, 1991, the Chinese Academy of Social Development Sciences was established with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
On January 14, 1992, the inaugural meeting of the Chinese Society of Social Development Sciences was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
On May 19, 1995, with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China, the Council officially decided to change its name to China Sustainable Development Research Association. [2]
On May 28, 2004, the Third National Congress of the Members of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development was held in Beijing. [3]
From December 4 to 6, 2009, the fourth member representative meeting of China Society for Sustainable Development was held in the China Science and Technology Hall in Beijing. [4]
On April 13, 2011, the second plenary meeting of the fourth council of China Society for Sustainable Development was held in Beijing. [5]
On December 21, 2016, the fifth member representative meeting of China Society for Sustainable Development opened in the China Science and Technology Hall in Beijing. [6]

Institutional setup

  • The highest authority
The highest authority of the group is the General Assembly of Members, whose functions and powers are:
(1) Formulate and amend the Articles of Association;
(2) Elect and remove directors;
(3) Review the work report and financial report of the Council;
(4) Formulate and revise the membership fee standard;
(5) Decide on termination;
(6) To formulate the basic tasks and working policies of the association;
(7) Decide on other major issues.
The general meeting of member representatives can be convened only when more than 2/3 of the members' representatives are present, and its resolution can take effect only after being approved by more than half of the members' representatives present.
The General Assembly of Member Representatives is held for 5 years. If the term of office needs to be changed in advance or postponed due to special circumstances, it must be voted by the Council, reported to the competent business unit for review and approved by the society registration authority. However, the extension of the term of office shall not exceed one year. [7]
  • Actuator
The Council is the executive body of the General Assembly of Members, leading the group to carry out daily work during the intersessional period, and is responsible for the General Assembly of Members.
The functions and powers of the Council are:
(1) Implement the resolutions of the General Assembly of Members;
(2) Elect and remove the chairman, vice chairmen and secretary-general; Elect and remove executive directors;
(3) To prepare for the convening of the General Assembly of Member Representatives;
(4) Report work and financial status to the member congress;
(5) To decide on the admission or expulsion of members;
(6) To decide on the establishment of offices, branches, representative offices and entities;
(7) To decide on the appointment of the Deputy Secretary General and the principal heads of each institution;
(8) Leading the work of various organizations of the group;
(9) Develop internal management system;
(10) Decide on other major issues.
The board of directors can be convened only when more than 2/3 of the directors are present, and its resolution can take effect only when more than 2/3 of the directors present vote.
The Council shall meet at least once a year. In special circumstances, it can also be held in the form of communication.
The group has a standing council. The Standing Council shall be elected by the Council and shall exercise the functions and powers specified in Item 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of Article 18 when the Council is not in session, and shall be responsible to the Council (the number of standing directors shall not exceed 1/3 of the number of directors).
The executive council can be convened only when more than 2/3 of the executive directors are present, and its resolution can take effect only after more than 2/3 of the executive directors present vote.
The Standing Council shall hold a meeting at least half a year. In special circumstances, it can also be held in the form of communication. [7]

  • Member classification
Types of members of the group: individual members and unit members. [7]
  • Membership conditions
Members who apply to join the group must meet the following conditions:
(1) Support the constitution of the group;
(2) Willing to join the group;
(3) Have a certain influence in the business (industry, discipline) of the group;
(4) Individual members should also meet one of the following conditions: 1. People from all walks of life who are engaged in work related to sustainable development, have outstanding achievements and contributions, and have a certain ability to promote theoretical research and practice; 2. Social management workers who enthusiastically and actively support the work of the association and are engaged in sustainable development.
(5) The unit members are enterprises and institutions related to sustainable development research and practice, with a certain number of scientific and technological personnel, committed to business work related to sustainable development, willing to participate in and support the work of the group, such as scientific research, teaching, production, and relevant public welfare social groups established according to law.   • Membership procedures
The membership procedures are:
(1) Submit the application for membership;
(2) After discussion and adoption by the Council;
(3) When the Council is not in session, it shall be discussed and adopted by the Standing Council;
(4) The membership card shall be issued by the Council or the institution authorized by the Council. [7]
  • Rights of Members
Members enjoy the following rights:
(1) The group's right to vote, stand for election and vote;
(2) Participate in the activities of the group;
(3) Obtain the priority of the group's services;
(4) The right to criticize, suggest and supervise the work of the group;
(5) Voluntary membership and free withdrawal;
(6) Have the right to report other members' illegal acts and the right to appeal. [7]
  • Obligations of Members
Members shall perform the following obligations:
(1) Implement the resolutions of the group;
(2) Safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the group;
(3) Complete the work assigned by the group;
(4) Pay membership dues as required;
(5) Report to the group and provide relevant information;
(6) Assist the Association in carrying out relevant business work, and take the initiative to propose and support relevant activities of the Association. [7]
  • Withdrawal instructions
When a member withdraws from the association, he/she shall notify the group in writing and return his/her membership card. If a member does not pay the membership fee or participate in the activities of the group for one year, it will be deemed as automatic withdrawal.
If a member seriously violates the Articles of Association, he/she shall be expelled after being voted by the Council or the Standing Council. [7]

(1) Carry out strategic and policy research and establish high-end think tanks serving the government and society.
(2) Non governmental organizations should be encouraged to send out folk voices that reflect the demands of Chinese society in a timely manner and actively participate in the process of international sustainable development.
(3) Gather and guide knowledge, talents, technology, capital and other resource elements to build a public service platform for sustainable development in China.
(4) Guide the three leading forces of capital, technology and market to participate in the process of sustainable development.
(5) To carry out research on sustainable development models that adapt to different development stages and regional characteristics, and provide consulting services for the national sustainable development experimental zone.
(6) To carry out non-governmental international exchanges and cooperation and provide services for local and enterprises to introduce Chinese foreign capital, technology and talents.
(7) According to the relevant regulations, edit and publish the journal of the association and books, materials, audio and video products related to the association.
(8) Establish social public welfare undertakings that are in line with the association's constitution and conducive to sustainable development. [7]

academic exchange

On May 9, 2019, the 2019 China Society for Sustainable Development Academic Annual Meeting and Forum on Sustainable Development was held in Jinan, Shandong Province. The conference was supported by the China Agenda 21 Management Center, the Economic Reference Daily of Xinhua News Agency and the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province, hosted by the China Association for Sustainable Development, and hosted by Shandong Normal University. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Academician Wang Hao, Chairman of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development. [9]
From November 2 to 3, 2022, the 2022 annual academic conference of China Society for Sustainable Development and the first China Carbon Capture, Use and Storage (CCUS) Technology Conference were held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The conference was hosted by the China Society for Sustainable Development, and hosted by Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University, the Climate Change Working Committee of the China Society for Sustainable Development, the Carbon Neutralization Professional Committee of the China Society for Sustainable Development, the Environmental Planning Institute of the Ministry of Ecological Environment, the Climate Change Branch of the China Society for Environmental Sciences and other units. With the theme of "CCUS technology innovation supports the realization of carbon neutrality goals", the conference aims to explore the path of carbon neutrality in China and build an exchange and dialogue platform in the field of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology. From April 19 to 22, 2023, co sponsored by China Agenda 21 Management Center, Xiamen University, China Society for Sustainable Development and China Ecological Society, Xiamen University International Institute of Sustainability Science, Xiamen University School of Environment and Ecology, China Society for Sustainable Development Experimental Demonstration Working Committee The "Seminar on Science and Technology Innovation Promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations" jointly organized by the Sustainable Ecology Professional Committee of the Chinese Ecological Society was held in Xiamen. The purpose of this seminar is to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, respond to the 8th United Nations Multi stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promote academic exchanges in the field of sustainable development, and share the experience in the construction of the innovation demonstration area of the national sustainable development agenda. China's population, resources and environment 》It is divided into Chinese journals and English journals. It is the director of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province. It is jointly sponsored by the China Sustainable Development Research Association, Shandong Sustainable Development Research Center, China Agenda 21 Management Center and Shandong Normal University.
The Chinese journal was founded in 1991 and is a monthly magazine. It takes the dissemination of new ideas, new ideas and new methods of sustainable development as its own responsibility, reflects new research achievements and decision-making trends of sustainable development theory and practice in a timely manner, and serves to establish and develop a theoretical system of sustainable development, promote China's socio-economic sustainable development and ecological civilization construction.
Founded in 1992, the English language journal is a quarterly peer reviewed international academic journal aiming at promoting the sustainable development of China and the world. Focus on publishing original research results in the fields of sustainable development goals, global environmental governance, ecological civilization construction, environmental economy and green development, sustainable use and circular development of resources, coping with climate change and low-carbon development. Honor recognition

In 2010, it was awarded the title of National Advanced Social Organization by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China.

From October 21 to 24, 2019, the "National Sustainable Development Experimental Demonstration System Construction Training Course" was held in Taiyuan. More than 70 trainees from science and technology departments of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government in China, including representatives from 4 national sustainable development agenda innovation demonstration areas and 13 national sustainable development pilot areas, attended the training. The training course was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology for Social Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized by the China Institute of Sustainable Development, and co organized by the Taiyuan Municipal People's Government. Focusing on the theme of "the construction of the national sustainable development experimental demonstration system", the training course arranged six special reports, five experience sharing, one group discussion and training summary. The group strictly abides by the Constitution, laws, regulations, guidelines and policies of the People's Republic of China, and strictly abides by social morality. Always take the popularization and publicity of the concept of sustainable development and the promotion of sustainable development practice as the basic starting point, take the realization of harmony between man and nature as the highest goal, vigorously promote the Chinese culture of "harmony between man and nature", and actively explore and promote diversified sustainable development models.
