In 1955, after the removal of the district and merging with the township, four townships, namely, No. 4, Dongdong, Beigou and Shihuiyao, were merged to establish Dongdong Township, and Dongping and Xiping Township were included in Hongshan Township.
In September 1958, Dongdong Township Commune was established.
In November 1966, it was renamed Spark Commune.
In February 1971, the name was restored.
In 1983, it was changed to Dongdong Township.[2]

Origin of place names
In the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1368), the senior general Feng Shengping settled in the west of the river and settled down in Jiuquan.
