Northeast Petroleum University (NEPU),[40]Located in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, it is a public full-time ordinary higher education institution supervised by Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Education.[47]The university is a key comprehensive university in Heilongjiang Province and was identified as one of 88 national key universities in 1978.The university is a university jointly built by Heilongjiang Province, CNPC, Sinopec and CNOOC, and it is also a first-class university construction university in Heilongjiang Province and an excellent engineer education and training program university.[27]
In 1960, with the discovery of Daqing Oil Field, the Preparatory Office of Anda Petroleum Institute was established in Anda, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province.In 1961, Anda Petroleum Institute was renamed Northeast Petroleum Institute.Later, in 1975, the Northeast Petroleum Institute was renamed Daqing Petroleum Institute again, and was authorized to hold a master's degree in 1981.In 1993, the college was further authorized to hold a doctoral degree.[8]In 2000, the school was transferred to be jointly built by the central and local governments, and mainly managed by Heilongjiang Province.In 2002, the school moved from Anda City to Daqing City as a whole.In 2010, the school was officially renamed as Northeast Petroleum University.In 2016, engineering disciplines entered the top 1% of the global ESI, and in 2023, chemistry and geoscience disciplines also entered the top 1% of the global ESI.[8]

Northeast Petroleum Institute
In 1959, with the discovery of Daqing Oilfield, one of the world's largest oilfields, by the Ministry of Petroleum in Gaotaizi Commune, Datong Town, Zhaozhou County, Heilongjiang Province, China's petroleum industry entered a new development period.In order to meet the demand of China's rapidly developing petroleum industry for senior engineering and technical personnel, Premier Zhou Enlai personally instructed to establish a college in Daqing Oilfield to train senior petroleum and technical personnel.[7]Thus, in 1960, the Preparatory Office of Anda Petroleum Institute came into being, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Petroleum Industry.In 1961, the college was officially established as Northeast Petroleum College, and the college students from the original Heilongjiang Petroleum College were merged into Northeast Petroleum College.[7-8]

With the passage of time, Northeast Petroleum Institute has been growing.In 1975, Northeast Petroleum Institute was renamed Daqing Petroleum Institute.In 1978, the college was listed as one of the 88 key universities in China.In 1981, the university was authorized to hold a master's degree, laying a solid foundation for training more senior talents.[8]In 1983, Comrade Deng Xiaoping put forward the guiding ideology of education work of "three orientations", which provided inspiration and direction for the establishment of the branch school of Daqing Petroleum Institute.In 1985, Qinhuangdao Scientific Research and Training Department of Daqing Petroleum Institute was established at the foot of Yanshan Mountain.[9]In 1993, the college was authorized to hold a doctoral degree and became the cradle of cultivating doctoral students.[8]
In 2000, the school was transferred to be jointly built by the central and local governments, focusing on the management of Heilongjiang Province, and obtained the first level discipline authorized by the doctoral degree.In 2002, the school moved from Anda City to Daqing City, providing a better learning environment for students.[8][10]In July 2005, Daqing Municipal People's Government and Daqing Petroleum Institute officially signed an agreement, and Daqing Art School was incorporated into Daqing Petroleum Institute.In 2008, the university was approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance to implement the "National Undergraduate Innovative Experiment Program".[11]

In 2019, the college was approved as the key laboratory of "continental shale oil and gas accumulation and efficient development" by the Ministry of Education, contributing to research in the energy field.In 2020, the college will establish Sanya Marine Oil and Gas Research Institute of Northeast Petroleum University in Sanya.[8]In 2022, Northeast Petroleum University will become a first-class university in Heilongjiang Province.In 2023, the college was again approved as the national key laboratory of "multi resources coordinated green exploitation of continental shale oil", and the disciplines of chemistry and geosciences entered the top 1% of ESI in the world.[8]

Cooperation and exchange
By November 2023, the university has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with more than 30 high-level universities and scientific research institutions in more than 10 countries in Asia, Europe, America and Africa, and actively carried out overseas student exchange projects including national public education, joint cultivation, exchange learning, short-term exchanges, etc.Teachers are encouraged to carry out substantive cooperation such as international academic exchanges and cooperative scientific research, and to jointly build joint laboratories for petroleum engineering, unconventional oil and gas research, water and energy research, low-carbon and new energy research with universities in the United States, Germany, Canada, Turkey, Iran and other countries to carry out project research.The school also actively carries out the education of foreign students in China. Journal of Northeast Petroleum University
Journal of Northeast Petroleum University (formerly Journal of Daqing Petroleum Institute) was founded in September 1977. It was officially approved by the former Ministry of Petroleum Industry in 1980. It was publicly distributed nationwide in 1981. It was generally distributed by Daqing Post Office in 1982 and subscribed by post offices all over the country. Postal code: 14-901987. It became an international continuous publication publicly distributed at home and abroad. It is a bimonthly publication.In 2012, it was renamed as Journal of Northeast Petroleum University. The domestic unified serial publication number is CN 23-1582/TE, the international standard serial publication number is ISSN 2095-4107, and the overseas distribution code is BM5564.[36][39]
The Journal of GeoEnergy, which was launched in March 2023, is an English open access open source journal jointly published by Hindawi and Northeast Petroleum University.[38]As a comprehensive engineering technology journal, the Journal of GeoEnergy focuses on innovative research achievements in the fields of optimal utilization, process analysis, optimization and transformation technology of China's traditional fossil energy and new energy, as well as original academic papers and high-level overview articles on traditional fossil energy, new geological energy and its supporting technologies,Provide guiding strategies for China's energy strategic security.At the same time, through integrating theory with practice, we focus on engineering application, and promote engineering technology progress with theoretical research results.The chief editor of Journal of GeoEnergy is Professor Liu Bo, Dean of the Unconventional Oil and Gas Research Institute of Northeast Petroleum University. Higher Education Research
Higher Education Research was founded in 1980, with two issues each year. It was named Teaching Research at the beginning of its publication. In 1989, it was approved by Heilongjiang Provincial Press and Publication Bureau to obtain an internal approval certificate and renamed Higher Education Research.Higher Education Research is a comprehensive academic journal for studying higher education, especially petroleum higher education. It is mainly a garden for educational scientific research, problem discussion and academic exchange for the majority of educators in the college.Higher Education Research also carried out periodical exchanges with more than 300 colleges and universities across the country, which effectively promoted the development of education and teaching research in the college.[39]

As of November 2023, Northeast Petroleum University has two campuses, Daqing and Qinhuangdao, covering an area of 1693000 square meters, including 333700 square meters in Qinhuangdao.[27][46]
Daqing Campus
Northeast Petroleum University Daqing Campus is located at No. 99 Xuefu Street, High tech Industrial Development Zone, Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, covering an area of about 1.35 million square meters.[47]This campus is a new campus after the relocation of Daqing Petroleum Institute in 2000. As the main campus of Northeast Petroleum University, Daqing campus undertakes the main undergraduate and graduate education work.[14][48]Daqing Campus has 57 undergraduate majors, 17 teaching departments, 20 functional departments and teaching auxiliary units.[13-14][86]
Northeast Petroleum University Qinhuangdao Campus is located at No. 550, West Section of Hebei Street, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province.[47]The campus was founded in 1985, covering 333700 square meters.The campus has 23 higher vocational majors and 12 undergraduate majors, with 4669 full-time students;It has 8 teaching departments, 18 functional departments and teaching auxiliary units, and 1 research institute.There are 309 teaching staff and 216 full-time teachers, including Qinhuangdao Campus: 19 senior professional and technical posts, 90 deputy senior professional and technical posts, 46 doctors, 2 doctoral supervisors and 32 master's supervisors.[46]

The library of Northeast Petroleum University was founded in 1960. In 2005, the new building was put into use, with a construction area of 48400 square meters. There are 8 open library, 6 books and newspapers reading rooms, and more than 3000 reading seats in the library.[84]In 2021, it was approved to set up the National Intellectual Property Information Service Center for Universities, and the Northeast Petroleum University branch of China's intellectual property remote education platform.[5]

At the headquarters of Northeast Petroleum University, there is an air film stadium, a fully enclosed plastic track and field field, two simple track and field fields, 57 outdoor basketball courts, 26 outdoor volleyball courts, 12 outdoor tennis courts, one roller skating field, one skating field, two multi-functional fitness training areas, one table tennis room, one fitness room, and one aerobics hall.[2]Among them, the building area of the air film stadium is 5498.79 square meters, and the museum has 15 sports venues, including 3 basketball courts, 1 tennis court (martial arts area), 3 volleyball courts and 8 badminton courts.[3-4]

Student Hospital
Northeast Petroleum University Hospital is a first-class general hospital.As of January 2013, there were 39 employees, including 1 chief physician, 6 deputy chief physicians and 1 deputy chief nurse.The hospital has clinical and medical technology departments such as internal medicine, surgery, emergency department, gynecology, pediatrics, epidemic prevention department, traditional Chinese medicine department (including acupuncture, massage, physiotherapy, etc.), stomatology department, otolaryngology department, radiology department, pharmacy department, laboratory department, etc.The Hospital of Northeast Petroleum University is the designated medical insurance institution in Daqing City, which undertakes the medical care work of nearly 20000 teachers and students and their families on campus, and provides services to the surrounding communities.[11]

Houde School District: It was started in 2001 and put into use in July 2002. There are 13 apartment buildings in total, with a total floor area of 73390.28 square meters. There are 1982 student accommodation rooms, including 465 two rooms, 1517 four rooms, and 7780 students can be accommodated.There are 4 colleges in the school district, including Petroleum Engineering College, Electrical Information Engineering College, Electronic Science College and Foreign Language College.[11]
Qizhi School District: It was started in 2002 and put into use in July 2003. There are 4 groups of 8 apartment buildings, with a total floor area of 52125.92 square meters, and 1464 student accommodation rooms, including 600 4-room rooms, 864 6-room rooms, and 7582 students can be accommodated.There are 5 colleges in the school district, including Mechanical Science and Engineering College, Civil Construction Engineering College, Computer and Information Technology College, Economic Management College, and Mathematical Science and Technology College.[11]
Bowen School District: The project was started in 2003 and put into use in July 2004.
